Head-to-head history out the window
Although Petra Kvitova holds an overall 6-2 head-to-head advantage over WTA Finals foe Agnieszka Radwanska, the Czech Republic number one and two-time Wimbledon champion has suffered both her losses to the Polish player in this end of season tournament.
It’s the fifth successive year that these two top female tennis pros clash at the WTA Finals, previously branded as the WTA Championships when held in Turkey. It’s two wins each for Kvitova and Radwanska, but this is the first time they face one another with the title at stake.
Coral make Kvitova, who conquered fellow former WTA Finals champion Maria Sharapova in straight sets, their odds-on 8/13 favourite for a second success. Radwanska is close behind her at 5/4, though.
Red and White Group runners-up take tough route to final
Both WTA Finals combatants had to bounce back from early tournament defeats during the round robin group stage. Kvitova and Radwanska just sneaked through their respective pools, advancing by virtue of winning more sets rather than matches of rivals.
Knocking off Sharapova without dropping a set is certainly impressive from Kvitova, while Radwanska’s big match experience allowed her to win a decider against rising WTA Tour star Garbine Muguruza in the other semi.
None of their seven meetings on hard court surfaces have gone to a third set, so that suggests it will be 2-0 again. Radwanska is an 11/4 chance to take the title in straight sets, while Kvitova’s odds-on status is enhanced to 6/4 if backed to win buy that scoreline.
