Fab Lolly can take advantage of a drop in class to score and overdue success in the 7f handicap on today’s card at Wolverhampton (13.55).

The James Bethell trained mare is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing back-to-back contests at Kempton and Lingfield in February 2014.

However, the five-year-old has posted some solid efforts to make the frame which read very well in the context of this contest.

Feel Fab and make a lot of Lolly

They include a fine 1 3/4 length third to Don’t Be over course and distance back in February in a class 3 affair off a mark of 78.

The winner is an ultra progressive sort who was completing a five-timer and has gone on to score twice since to be rated 99.

That gives the form a rock solid look, and Fab Lolly is now able to race off 4lb lower.

It makes the daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar look dangerously well-treated now dropped down into class 5 company, and the booking of Adam Kirby to do the steering suggests connections mean business.

Karens can Star for punters

In the 1m nursery (14.30), Karens Star is a potential improver on her handicap debut and can go well at a big price.

The Steph Hollinshead trained filly has only had three starts, and caught the eye in the last of those over course and distance nine days ago when a never nearer 4 3/4 length sixth of 10 to Coherent.

After being held-up at the rear, Karens Star was denied a clear run when trying to make a move a furlong from home before keeping on nicely under tender handling.

To me she finished with running left in her, and it looked a decent class 5 maiden for the grade as the first five home were all saddled by big yards.

It was an effort which suggested Karens Star was being brought along with handicaps in mind, and and opening mark of 63 looks expoitable now that the daughter of Piccolo drops down into class 6 company.
