Second round completed on Sunday

Only 32 players will be left in the 2015 UK Championship Snooker following the weekend, and Sunday’s play from the Barbican Centre in York promises plenty of popular potters in action.

There’s also money to be made, though. So, with that in mind, Coral snooker writers give their top tips for the green baize battles taking place.

Allen advancing past Georgiou assured

A whole 64 spaces separate recent Champion of Champions runner-up Mark Allen and UK Championship second round opponent Michael Georgiou, so it pays to back the Pistol in the handicap market.

Give County Antrim’s Allen a 3.5 frame deficit to overturn, he is 23/20 to run out as winner, with Georgiou lucky to have got past David Morris in a decider last time out.

Trump can crush Carrington

Last year’s UK Championship runner-up Judd Trump remains a leading contender to go one better this time around. His last 64 match is with Stuart Carrington – a player the Bristol break-builder beat 10-6 at the Crucible earlier this year.

That four-frame margin looks par for the Juddernaut here, and an 18/5 price says Trump can beat Carrington 6-2.

For a Selby win, read in between the Lines

When world number one Mark Selby last met Oliver Lines at the German Masters, he only conceded two frames. A 6-2 victory for the Jester from Leicester at 4/1 looks a sure-fire bet.

Edbon to destroy fellow whitewasher Dale

Only one place in the seedings separate veteran duo Peter Ebdon and Dominic Dale, and both baize players have been buoyed by whitewashing their first round opponents.

World champion in 2002, Ebdon also inflicted this on his Welsh foe when they last played. Dale has lost all three meetings with the conservative potter this year, managing to win just one frame on two occasions.

Short form snooker like this first-to-six frames format seems to suit Ebdon, so a repeat of his whitewashing cannot be ruled out at 28/1.

Robertson may find Mehta a thorny foe

Aditya Mehta forced Neil Robertson into a final frame decider in their only previous meeting back in 2011, and the Thunder from Down Under will be wary of that.

Aussie expat Robertson is regarded as a serious candidate for the UK crown, so he’ll have to win this to underline that, but edging the Indian 6-5 is a temptingly long 15/2.

Maguire should Cope after Whirlwind win

Stephen Maguire may have been fortunate to come through against popular veteran Jimmy White in round one, but the Glaswegian should find Jamie Cope easier to deal with.

In all four of his victories over the Stoke potter, On-fire Maguire has conceded just one frame, and a 6-1 scoreline here is a 6/1 shot.
