Six sensational second round shouts for Saturday

Half of the 128-man field has already been eliminated from snooker’s second-most prestigious ranking tournament, the UK Championship, and now thoughts turn to who can make the second week at York’s Barbican Centre?

Saturday’s action sees 16 of the 32 last 64 ties played, so Coral’s snooker experts take a look at their top tips for these compelling clashes.

Pocket Dynamo to defeat the big Lisowski

Snooker - Betfred World Championship - Day Seven - Crucible Theatre

Graeme Dott has recorded two of his three victories over Jack Lisowski by a margin of two frames. Glasgow’s Pocket Dynamo, who won the World Championship in 2006, eased past snooker’s Secret Agent in Nigel Bond 6-2 to set up this encounter.

Odds of 11/2 for Dott to down Lisowski 6-4 are well worth a wager, despite the latter coming through against Zak Surety 6-4 in round one.

Darling of Dublin to dispense with Davis

Ken Doherty remains one of the most popular pros on the snooker circuit, and he holds a 4-2 head-to-head advantage over second round opponent and fellow veteran Mark Davis.

The Darling of Dublin rolled back the years, almost to that 1997 Crucible crown vintage, in whitewashing Tony Drago to set this fixture up. Doherty is thus a terrific 12/5 to knock Davis out too.

Higgins to put a hurting on Tian Pengfei

Snooker - Betfred World Championship - Day Eight - Crucible Theatre

In both of three-time UK champ John Higgins’ victories over Chinese cueman Tiang Pengfei, he’s dropped just two frames. This pattern could well continue for the Wizard of Wishaw, who is a nifty 9/2 to win 6-2.

Murphy magic gives him momentum

Masters holder Shaun Murphy managed to secure five consecutive frames against first round opponent Ashley Hugill en route to a 6-1 romp. Last 64 foe Zhou Yuelong will be fearing the worst, with the Magician a 7/1 shot to repeat this feat.

Perry to pounce on Williams

Gentleman Joe Perry is the 10th seed at this tournament, and crushed fellow veteran James Wattana 6-1 to book a battle with Robbie Williams. A repeat scoreline for Perry here is an awesome 11/2 chance.

Ding destroyer Duffy to send Swail home

Snooker - UK Championships - Day Seven - The Barbican Centre

Sheffield native Adam Duffy knocked out two-time winner and eighth seed Ding Junhui to send shockwaves through the snooker world. Joe Swail is his next opponent, and he’s beaten the veteran before. Duffy is a sensational 7/5 for another York win.

Coral’s top tip: Doherty is a terrific 12/5 price to defeat Davis and take his place in round three.
