Schottische can take advantage of a drop in the weights in the 1m handicap that opens today’s card at Southwell (12.40) now returned to her favoured fibresand surface.

The Alan Bailey trained mare has a good record at the track, winning once and finishing in the frame on two occasions from seven starts.

Schottische was last successful over course and distance back in January when showing a game attitude to hold on and beat Poppy Bond by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 57.

The five-year-old is now able to race off 2lb lower, and comes into the contest on the back of a solid third of 10 at Wolverhampton.

That run suggested that the daughter of Pastoral Pursuits was ready to strike, and the return to this venue is a big plus.

The booking of Robert Winston is also a positive one, and another plus is that Schottische hails from a yard that has a terrific strike rate of just over 23 per cent with his runners at the track in the past 12 months.

Amenable could placate punters

Amenable

In the 1m handicap (13.10), course specialist Amenable looks weighted to take all the beating.

The Conor Dore trained gelding is a five time winner at the track, with the last of those successes coming over 7f back in January off a mark of 64.

Amenable has since gone on to make the frame on several occasions, including off a rating of 69, and is now able to race off just 55.

That is the lowest rating the eight-year-old has raced off in over two years and makes the son of Bertolini dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form.

Amenable also comes into the race on the back of an eye-catching effort over 6f at Redcar when keeping on nicely to finish a 3 1/4 length seventh of 19 to Daylight.

The step back up in trip looks sure to suit, and this is a weak class 6 contest which represents a nice opening for Amenable to get back to winning ways.
