Top two clash with Gers already ahead in title race

Scottish Championship leaders Rangers have won on two of their last three visits to closest challengers Hibernian, and are expected to increase their lead over the Edinburgh outfit to 11 points.

Coral make Mark Warburton’s men odds-on 5/6 favourites for victory at Easter Road, while hosts Hibs are 16/5 outsiders to win with a draw rated more likely at 13/5.

This match pits the Scottish second tier’s two top scorers against one another, but the Gers goal threat does not solely rest upon leading marksman Martyn Waghorn.

Tavernier a tasty anytime bet

Two of Waghorn’s 15 goals have come against Hibernian, so he is evens to net again anytime or 4/1 to break the deadlock. A value bet for punters, however, comes in the form of James Tavernier, who has incredibly netted nine times from right back.

Like fellow Wigan alumnus Waghorn, Tavernier has been rejuvenated by Warburton at Ibrox. Despite scoring in both meetings with Hibs this season, he is an incredible price at 5/1 to hurt them again.

Speaking of incredible returns, ex-Scotland striker Kenny Miller returns to where his career began with travelling Rangers. Since leaving Hibernian, he’s grabbed a dozen goals in 20 outings against them, and that makes his anytime odds of 7/4 sweet.

Jason is Cummings for Gers

Soccer - Petrofac Training Cup First Round - Hibernian v Rangers - Easter Road

Hibs hopes rather seem to rest on young forward Jason Cummings who, like Waghorn, is in double figures for the campaign and he boasts a great return against Rangers with five in seven career appearances. At the same price as Miller in the anytime market (7/4), punters could cash in on Cummings, as he has scored in each of his last four coming into this clash.

Alan Stubbs will want to close the gap between his Hibernian side and the Glasgow giants, but the hosts aren’t as free-scoring as Gers, and that makes an away win with both teams finding the target tempting at 12/5.
