Nottingham preview: Mud-loving Majestic Hero handicapped to strike

Majestic Hero is on a handy mark at present and, with underfoot conditions to suit, looks decent value to land the 5f handicap on today’s card at at Nottingham (14.25).

This Ron Harris trained gelding won twice in the mud as a juvenile, with the last of those successes coming at Sandown where he made all and stayed on strongly to score by 1 1/4 lengths off his current mark of 79.

The three-year-old has not been seen to best effect in his last two starts, but had previously posted a couple of really solid efforts which suggested his time is near.

In the first of those, Majestic Hero showed plenty of early dash before being collared near the line and beaten just 3/4 of a length by Rio Ronaldo at Windsor.

The son of Majestic Missile backed that up with an excellent 1/2 length third of 14 to Equally Fast at the same venue, and those runs represent strong form in the context of this contest.

Majestic Hero also now gets the soft ground that he relishes, and the booking of David Probert catches the eye and suggests connections are expecting a big run.

Probert partnered Majestic to both his juvenile successes and is now back in the saddle for the first time in six starts.

Punters could Touch The Clouds if Stone gelding wins

In the other 5f handicap on the card (15.00), Touch The Clouds can take advantage of an ease in grade to score an overdue success.

The William Stone trained gelding is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing a seller at Southwell back in December 2015 off an official rating of 79 when in the care of Kevin Ryan.

However, the four-year-old has run really well in two of his last three starts and is now able to race off just 54.

They inlude a solid length third to Sleepy Blue Ocean in a class 5 contest over course and distance, and Touch The Clouds is now able to race in this less competitive class 6 affair off 3lb lower.

It gives the son of Sleeping Indian major claims at the weights, and another plus is that Touch The Clouds has winning form over course and distance on soft ground.
