Tigers hungry to cement Championship top spot

Hull City are unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions and, as a result their 5/4 odds with Coral to beat Derby County hold some value, especially considering the fact that Steve Bruce’s boys are at home.

Currently top of the Championship table on goal difference to Brighton, Hull will also want to put some distance between them and their latest visitors Derby, who are just two points off. However, Paul Clement’s Rams lost last time out on their travels, suffering a 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Nottingham Forest, so will be wary of slipping up here.

With fearsome forwards Abel Hernandez and Shaun Maloney, the Tigers have the potential to cause considerable problems to the Derby defence. While top-scorer with seven, Hernandez is 9/2 to break the deadlock, Maloney, who dispatched last time out in the 1-1 away draw against Bristol City, is great value at 15/8 in the anytime market.

In their last home match, Hull swept aside fellow promotion rivals Middlesbrough 3-0 with Mohamed Diame, Sam Clucas and Tom Huddlestone all scoring, with the trio offered at respective 15/8, 7/2 and 11/2 anytime odds to score.

Derby can be Thorne in Tigers teeth

Despite their loss against Forest, Derby bounced back against Cardiff City last time out, as they recorded a terrific 2-0 win over the south Wales outfit. Goals from George Thorne and Andreas Weiman secured the victory and Thorne is a superb 7/1 anytime scorer shout against Hull.

His sensational strike and all-round contribution against the Bluebirds caused Clement to speak out after the match, pitting the midfielder in a positive light: “I thought George Thorne was outstanding. He scored the goal but his overall performance was of a very high level.

“When he signed for this club within two or three days of him joining he had the injury and then when he came back he had other associated problems from being out for such a long period,” he continued.

“But he’s been working very hard with his physical condition and we are reaping the rewards of having him fit and playing regularly.”

Seasoned campaigner Chris Martin is also one to be wary of and having hit 21 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season, will be keen to get close to emulating that total this time around. With eight goals in the Championship so far this season, he can look to extend his tally on Humberside and is 11/2 to break the deadlock.
