Yet again, Arsenal find themselves with an injury crisis, though in a position to challenge for the Premier League title, with Coral offering odds of 2/1 of this occurring.

The latest player in the treatment room is one of last season’s breakthrough players, Francis Coquelin, following his knock in the defeat against West Bromwich Albion. As a result, we discuss five potential options for them below, as Arsenal compete with a number of teams, including rivals Tottenham for Premier League success.

Sven Bender

Long-linked with a move to the Premier League, Borussia Dortmund’s 26-year-old could be the ideal candidate to step in and could also act as a long term replacement for club captain Mikel Arteta who will be released from his contract at the end of the campaign.

William Carvalho

Arsene Wenger is said to have pursued Portuguese protagonist persistently over the last couple of years, particularly around the time of the World Cup. His buyout clause at club Sporting Lisbon is believed to be £37.5m, which the Frenchman has been unwilling to pay so far.

Sweden vs Portugal

There is no doubting his talent though and he could definitely do a job. Should Arsenal fail to move for the 23-year-old, he could well end up at another elite European club sooner rather than later.

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Sevilla’s Polish enforcer has been one of the standout performers over the last couple of seasons, establishing himself as arguably the best defensive midfielder in La Liga. At 25 he is at the right age for a new challenge and would slot seamlessly into the Arsenal side.

Victor Wanyama

Another who the club have courted in recent years, even in the Kenyan’s Celtic days. Since his Saints switch he has acclimatised effortlessly to the Premier League, though could see a move to the Gunners as a natural step up in his career.

Sergi Samper

Barcelona’s 20-year-old was reportedly on the Gunners’ radar in the summer and there is no doubting his ability or potential. Being groomed to step into the shoes of Sergio Busquets, he could get tired of waiting and see a move to Arsenal as the next best thing.
