  • Hosts win by 127 runs after England collapse
  • Pakistan remain undefeated in UAE
  • England still yet to even win a match in UAE
  • Two sides now ready themselves for ODIs and T20s

England lose tight Test series 2-0

It could have been a different story this Test series for England, had sunlight and common sense allowed them to get the 25 runs needed in the first match and had they held on for another 6.3 overs in the second.

But in the end, they’ll know they were simply not good enough, especially after their second innings collapse in Sharjah which confirmed they lost 2-0 overall.

England were given a great chance of drawing the series after being set a target of 283 for victory, but they dramatically flopped with just captain Alastair Cook giving any resistance scoring 63 from 164, being defeated by 127 runs.

The loss now means that Pakistan remain undefeated in the UAE, while England are still yet to even win a match in the Men in Green’s adopted home in six attempts.

It was returning spinner Yasir Shah who did the damage once more, as he took figures of 4-44 in the second innings to compliment his three wickets in the first.

Other slow bowlers Zulfiqar Babar and Shoaib Malik also did their bit, as they combined to get Ian Bell, Joe Root, James Taylor, Jonny Bairstow and Samit Patel out for just a combined 8 runs.

Surely after Bell’s duck it is the end for the Warwickshire veteran at international level, as he has now managed no centuries in his past 23 innings – with just four 50s.

Changes needed in Test side

England dip in form once again coincided with Kevin Pietersen’s perfectly timed wonder knock of 115 off just 66 balls for Ram Slam side Sunfoil Dolphins, in his nation of birth South Africa.

But will England and nemesis Andrew Strauss give in and give the controversial star one last chance? Particularly with a Test series coming up against the Proteas, which Trevor Bayliss’ men are 5/2 with Coral to win.

There are also calls for young James Vince to be brought in the side, while Taylor impressed in the first innings – top scoring for the visitors with 76.

Moeen Ali will almost certainly move back down the order after his brief and unsuccessful promotion to opener, so the only player not given a chance to partner Cook is now Alex Hales.

But there is still over a month to go until the four-Test series with South Africa, which begins on December 26th.

The four ODIs and three T20s with Pakistan are still to come, so can England gain some sort of revenge in those battles?
