It’s that time of the year again when football managers start making their Christmas lists, well, post-Christmas lists, as they begin to decide which players they want to boost their squads for the second half of the season.

Edin to Chelsea?

Soccer - Ligue 1 - PSG v Gazelec Ajaccio - Parc des Princes
With the form of Diego Costa in serious decline, reports from Stamford Bridge indicate that Chelsea, 7/2 with Coral for a top four Premier League finish, are monitoring the situation of centre forward Edinson Cavani at PSG.

The Uruguayan international has long been playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the French champions and is said to have been contemplating a switch to the English top-flight for some time. With Chelsea struggling not just for wins, but also goals this term, boss Jose Mourinho is understood to have lined up Cavani as a solution.

Although he has been utilised from wide since he joined PSG, the 28-year-old has still managed to net 65 goals in 112 appearances, better than a goal every two matches and, with Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas in support at the Blues, he has every chance of replicating this.

Austin Villa

Soccer - Sky Bet Championship - Queens Park Rangers v Blackburn Rovers - Loftus Road
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are believed to be pursuing QPR striker Charlie Austin with new manager Remi Garde said to want to strengthen his options up front, with the West Midlands outfit having only scored 10 goals this season.

The 26-year-old has struck six goals in 12 Championship matches this term, having also come back from an injury, however, he did turn down a move to the Premier League in the summer, following QPR’s relegation to England’s second tier. A fee in the region of £8m is being talked about, though in January, prices for players are often inflated and this figure could quickly increase.

Man Utd to strike it Ritch?

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - AFC Bournemouth v Watford - Vitality Stadium

Elsewhere, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is said to be monitoring Bournemouth and Scotland international winger Matt Ritchie. The 26-year-old has been one of the stand-out Cherries players this season in an injury-ravaged squad.

Van Gaal wants to add a new winger to his squad in the winter window, while Leicester City flyer Riyad Mahrez, Lazio star Felipe Anderson and Southampton’s Sadio Mane are also on his list of desired targets.
