Slick City can do Sterling Sevilla job

Manuel Pellegrini takes his side to southern Spain for a clash with Sevilla in the Champions League, knowing that a win will considerably boost Man City’s chances of progressing through to the last 16 of the competition.

City are well priced at 7/5 to get a favourable result and the only other meeting between both sides finished 2-1 to the English club, two weeks ago. Kevin De Bruyne netted a last minute winner at the Etihad to secure the points and has terrific 15/8 anytime scorer odds to strike once more. It could be an emotional night for Jesus Navas who returns to his former club and he is 11/2 to net at any point.

Having won six out of their last seven matches, City are the form side coming into this clash, though Pellegrini could well be concerned at the lack of goals at the minute especially from Wilfried Bony who is deputising for the injured Sergio Aguero.

Bony has boss’ backing

Speaking following City’s 2-1 win over Norwich in which the Ivory Coast striker squandered a number of chances, Pellegrini was positive about his player, who is 11/2 to score first against the Bathtubs.

“Unfortunately at this moment, as happens with a lot of strikers, he’s not scoring the number of goals he can,” said City manager Pellegrini. “He is missing some chances. The way he plays and the striker he is, he normally doesn’t miss them.

“But the fans need to be patient and support him because he is an important player. He holds the ball up well and creates a lot of space for the other players.

“I think he needs trust. He is playing after many months of not being able to work normally, for different reasons. I have placed a lot of trust in him, now he must demonstrate why he’s here. I am sure that in the future he will return to his normal performance.”

Konoplyanka an eye-catcher

New summer signing Yevhen Konoplyanka has been a revelation since joining and the Ukrainian winger also scored in the reverse fixture. At 2/1 to score anytime these are odds that are definitely worth considering, while striker Fernando Llorente’s 13/2 price to break the deadlock appeals as well after dispatching last time out.

Sevilla certainly have goals in them. Their last home game was a 5-0 thrashing of Getafe, though Kevin Gameiro, who hit a hat-trick is an injury doubt. If risked, he is 7/4 in the anytime market.
