Carlisle preview: Seeyouatmidnight to shine on chasing debut

Seeyouatmidnight had some top class form to his name over hurdles, and can make a winning debut over the larger obstacles in the 2m 4f novices chase on a cracking card at Carlisle (13.45).

The Sandy Thomson trained gelding has a tremendous strike-rate having won three of his six starts over hurdles, including a Grade 2 contest at Haydock.

Seeyouatmidnight has also run some superb races in defeat, finishing third in a Grade 1 contest at Aintree and a cracking seventh of 16 to Cole Harden in the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in action.

Those runs represent staying form at the highest level, and the seven-year-old has the size and scope to make up into just as good a chaser.

Seeyouatmidnight also has a good record fresh, and the testing underfoot conditions will be right up his street.

Granted a clear round the son of Midnight Legend is going to be very hard to beat, and he can get the better of Maximiser and Silsol to land the spoils before going on to even better things.

Salubrious a healthy bet for punters

In the 3m graduation chase (14.50), Salubrious looks to hold leading claims of providing in-form trainer Paul Nicholls with another winner.

The gelding was a very smart staying hurdler, winning the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival and finishing a cracking second to subsequent World Hurdle winner More Of That in a Grade 2 contest at the same venue.

Salubrious was sent off 1/5 on the back of those efforts when making a winning debut over fences at Fontwell when last seen in action, but made very hard work of landing the odds when beating Drum Valley by just a neck.

The eight-year-old was far from fluent at several obstacles, but did show a good attitude to dig deep and get the job done and the front two pulled 51 lengths clear of the third home.

In hindsight, it may well have been a far better effort than first envisaged, and Salubrious looks the type who should have plenty more to offer this season for a yard that excels with its chasers.
