Jurgen Klopp makes dug-out debut

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off sees White Hart Lane welcome new Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp for his first foray into English football, as the Reds travel to take on Tottenham.

On first glance, home side Spurs seem superb value at 7/5 with Coral for victory, or an even tastier in a match special at 4/1 to win with both teams to score (max stake £20).

Yet, the Londoners have not taken the spoils from any of their last five frays with the Liverpudlians, conceding eight over their past two stints as hosts.

Going on recent games between the two teams, a drab stalemate is not in the offing, though a draw is priced generously at 12/5.

Klopp targeting continuity

Considering the Reds’ recent instability, reflected in odds of 15/8, they are outsiders for a win on the road. Although, they may just be worth taking a cheeky punt on, considering Klopp’s inspirational reputation and ability to refresh the ranks.

In a press conference before the match, Klopp told media: “We’ve had three excellent training sessions. The boys are willing to listen. But it’s not the time to change too much.

“We have to run and fight together. I want to see more bravery, more fun in their eyes. I want to see that they like what they do. I saw it this week,” the German coach continued, and Klopp will no doubt be hoping new coach syndrome has taken hold.

Both teams have suffered fitness blows ahead of the battle, with Danny Ings and Joe Gomez joining Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino on Liverpool’s injury list, while Son Heung-Min, Ryan Mason and suspended Eric Dier are sidelined for Spurs.

Can Sturridge keep up sensational scoring form?

Still, there are plenty of potent players on either side able to get on the scoresheet. Harry Kane arrives back from England duty having impressed, and is 6/4 in the anytime market, while Erik Lamela (7/2) and Christian Eriksen (6/1 to deliver the final blow) are also scoring shouts.

As for the visitors, dangerous Daniel Sturridge has two in as many of his last outings, and is 6/1 to grab the opener, or 9/2 in another excellent match special to net with Liverpool to win (also max stake £20). Alternative chances include in-form James Milner (5/1 to notch anytime) and a previous scorer in this fixture, playmaker Philippe Coutinho (11/4).
