Man City storm a march on Arsenal target?

On the eve of their Champions League group stage meeting with Sevilla at the Etihad, Manchester City are linked with a move for their opponents’ defensive midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, according to reports in the local press.

Coral rate Man City as 5/2 second-favourites to top their pool, Group D, going into their battle with the Bathtubs, and these reports may just be an attempt to throw La Liga side Sevilla off their game.

Previously and strongly linked to Arsenal, who have emerged as City’s most likely challengers for the Premier League title, Etihad coach Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have earmarked 25-year-old Poland international Krychowiak as an upgrade on his current engine room options.

A rugged anchorman who is strong in tackle, but not without some technical ability, Krychowiak could certainly take to English football, but had a new buyout clause inserted into his contract this past summer in a bid to ward off interest.

The Gunners signed compatriot Krystian Bielik earlier this year and he plays in the same area in front of the back four. Arsene Wenger is monitoring his progress in the Arsenal academy and reserves with interest.

Man City are after a readymade player in his pomp, however, and Krychowiak certainly fits the bill. Fernando Reges’ move from Porto to the Ethiad hasn’t really worked out, while fellow Brazilian Fernandinho has shown more promise.

Double Europa League winners Sevilla have sold some of their best and brightest talents in recent years, so know that every player has his price.

Krychowiak could thus become the latest in a long line of Bathtubs talented to grace the Premier League, which includes Julio Baptista, Federico Fazio, Gary Medel and Alberto Moreno.
