Leading bookmaker Coral make Lionel Messi odds-on at 2-9 to win the Ballon d’Or award for 2015 after the shortlist for the world player of the year was announced this morning. Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronald is second best in the betting at 5-1, while Neymar can be backed at 16-1.

“The betting suggests Lionel Messi is a clear favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year. He has had a superb season for Barcelona where he helped them win La Liga and the Champions League,” said Coral’s John Hill.
