Following their disappointing performance against Rubin Kazan, in which Christian Benteke came on as a second- half substitute and missed a number of chances, Coral review five forwards that Jurgen Klopp may want to consider in January.

The Reds are 14/1 with Coral to win the Europa League this season, though will have to be more polished in their performances if they are going to achieve success. How many of these suggestions do you agree with?

Gonzalo Higuain

Italy Soccer Europa League

An instrumental part of Napoli’s success, the Argentine striker has scored 61 goals in 115 appearances, contributing with 25 assists and he is exactly the type of instinctive finisher that Liverpool need. Higuain is also perhaps the closest they could come to replacing the impact that Luis Suarez had on the side, though would likely cost at least £35m.

Vincent Aboubakar

Has stepped into Jackson Martinez’ shoes this season at Porto and has hit the ground running. With seven goals in 10 across all competitions so far, evidence so far suggests that the Cameroon international can live up to his billing and follow the exploits of compatriot Samuel Eto’o for his country. No doubt Aboubakar could be a success at Liverpool, though everything depends on Porto’s willingness to let him go.

Juan Iturbe

Italy Soccer Italian Cup
Another Argentine, though the 22-year-old has yet to really live up to his huge billing. Currently at Roma, Iturbe appears to operate in the withdrawn attacker role, though can feature from the left as well.

Jhon Cordoba

Part of a clutch of young Colombians, who have been billed to step into the shoes of the likes of Radamel Falcao and eventually Martinez and at just 22, Cordoba has a lot of talent. Whether he can adapt to the Premier League would be his biggest challenge, though the Mainz forward would be available at just a snip of what they spent on Benteke.

Alvaro Morata

Italy Soccer Serie A
Definitely an interesting one. Much would depend on whether the 23-year-old wanted a new challenge, after winning the Coppa Italia and Serie A double in his first season with Juventus. The Reds have always had an influx of cult Spanish attackers, such as Fernando Morientes, Luis Garcia and Fernando Torres and Klopp might be the man to attract someone of Morata’s quality.
