Kempton preview: Milady to lord it over rivals

Published:

Milady has a progressive profile and looks the answer to the 7f handicap on this evening’s eight-race card at Kempton (20.15).

The Roger Charlton trained filly came good at the second time of asking when overcoming a slow start to win going away by 3 1/4 lengths in a 6f maiden at Lingfield, and has since posted two really solid efforts in handicap company.

In the first of those over 6f at Ascot, Milady again fluffed her lines at the start before keeping on strongly to finish a never nearer 1 1/2 length fifth of 16 to Magnnus Maximus.

The three-year-old backed that up with a cracking second over 6f at Chelmsford when coming from off the pace to be gaining all the way to the line and beaten just a head by Dominium.

Judged on those efforts Milady will relish the step up to 7f, and although now 2lb higher in the weights the daughter of Shamardal should be more than capable of winning races off a mark of 78.

Milady also remains unexposed and open to plenty of improvement after just four starts, and from a good draw in stall two is going tough to beat in the hands of Willie Twiston-Davies.

In the 5f handicap (18.15), First Rebellion looks decent value to get back to winning ways.

The Tony Carroll trained gelding is a course and distance winner who has also made the frame on four occasions in nine runs at the track.

First Rebellion is now 1lb lower than when last successful in a 5f contest at Wolverhampton back in February, and comes into the contest having returned to form when third of 12 to Red Cape over 6f at that venue.

The six-year-old showed plenty of dash to race at the head of affairs, and after being headed inside the last kept on to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths.

It was an effort which suggested First Rebellion’s time was near, and the drop back to the minimum trip looks sure to suit.

Three of First Rebellion’s four career wins have come over it, and if the refitting of the blinkers have the desired effect the son of Cockney Rebel looks weighted to run a huge race in the hands of promising 3lb claimer George Downing.
