Keeneland preview: Breeders’ Cup Filly And Mare Sprint (17.25)

Judy The Beauty looks to hold leading claims of landing back-to-back successes in the Breeders’ Cup Filly And Mare Sprint at Keeneland (17.25).
The Wes Ward trained mare showed a tremendous attitude to win last year’s renewal at Santa Anita by a head, fighting off challengers inside the final furlong in tenacious fashion.
Although beaten at short odds in three starts this season, the six-year-old shaped as if coming to the boil in the last of those when keeping on to finish a 1 1/4 length third to Fioretti.
Judy The Beauty should now be spot on to do herself justice, and has clearly been brought along steadily with this race in mind.
Ward is a master at getting one spot on for the big day, and another plus is that Judy The Beauty has course and distance winning form to her name.
The six-year-old does have a wide draw to overcome, but that is not as a big a negative as it could be given her run style, and the daughter of Ghostzapper has the services in the saddle of master tactician Frankie Dettori.
Super Majesty and Cavorting are contenders
Cavorting comes into the race at the top of her game and looks a big danger.
The Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly has won her last three starts, and was very impressive in the last of those in a Grade 2 at Saratoga under a penalty.
Cavorting broke well, and after being settled in midfield was produced to take up the running at the furlong marker before drawing clear to score by three lengths.
That was the three-year-old’s fifth win in seven starts, and Cavorting is an improving sort on an upward curve.
The daughter of Bernarndini does have the widest draw of all in stall 12 to overcome, but if breaking in her best fashion should be bang there at the business end of affairs.
Super Majesty is the other three-year-old in the field, and looks a live outsider having shown improved form to win three of her four starts this season.
