Gunners face crucial Bayern task
As Arsenal prepare to take on Bayern Munich in their European Champions League tie, the Gunners know the next two matches are crucial.
At least four points are required against the German outfit, though six would be better. The Gunners have odds of 13/5 to be victorious at the Emirates, however, Coral investigates which five Bayern Munich players they could do with to make these two matches easier.
Manuel Neuer
On his day, arguably the world’s best in his position, though he does tend to have an ego complex. The north London outfit must have thought that they had sorted their goalkeeping problems out in the summer, after bringing in Petr Cech, though the Czech Republic international has conceded a few sloppy goals this term.
Jerome Boateng
Since his Manchester City days, the German centre back has developed into a top class centre half and Arsenal could easily accommodate him. Whether the World Cup winner slotted in next to compatriot Per Mertesacker, or Lauren Koscielny, there is no doubt that the versatile defender would be first choice in defence.
Javi Martinez
Although he has had injury problems, the Spanish defensive midfielder, who can also play deeper, is a precocious talent and, with the Gunners in need of a world class holding player, Martinez has much to offer.
Having come through the ranks at Real Sociedad, there was a reason why Pep Guardiola, arguably the best coach in world football, paid a premium to bring him to Bayern Munich. Possessing all the attributes to adapt to the Premier League, the 27-year-old can slot straight in at Arsenal.
Douglas Costa
Perhaps somewhat controversial to leave Mario Gotze out, however, the Brazilian offers more flexibility, able to play on the wing, behind the striker, or up front. With pace to burn and an eye for goal, offered the chance to link up with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, the Gunners could be devastating.
Robert Lewandowski
Without a doubt one of the best centre forwards in world football at the moment, Guardiola has somehow, if it were possible, managed to improve the Polish hitman beyond what his previous coach Jurgen Klopp managed.
Wenger has said he tried to buy him from former club Borussia Dortmund a couple of seasons ago, though he plumped for Bayern. The Frenchman will hope that the Pole doesn’t come back to haunt him in London.
