Europa League Group J: Smashing Spurs meet Monaco in crunch clash
Having never met before competitively, there is a strong chance that Monaco (20/1 title shouts with Coral) and Tottenham (18/1) could face each other again in the knockout stages of this year’s Europa League.
However, this Group J fixture between the two will give everyone an indicator of which club can go the furthest.
They have duelled before, though, in a pre-season friendly in 2013, with then Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri guiding his team to a 5-2 victory. The hosts are 5/4 favourites to triumph again, while there are brilliant odds available of 15/2 for there to be over 4.5 total match goals.
Italian defender Andrea Raggi is the only scorer that day for the Principality outfit available to current head coach Leonardo Jardim. His huge price of 16/1 to find the net anytime again seem all the more enticing given that he has already struck twice in all competitions this term already.
Other top names for the Ligue 1 side, who have taken just 12 points from their opening eight French top-flight fixtures this season, are former Everton loanee Lacina Traore, exciting attackers Bernardo Silva and Stephan El Shaarawy, and playmaker Joao Moutinho. The former trio are 5/4 in the anytime market, while the latter is a longer 10/3 chance.
Monaco come up against an in-form Spurs team, though, that have won their last three Premier League matches, including a most recent 4-1 thrashing of title favourites Manchester City. The north Londoners also took three points in their group opener against Qarabag, so are 5/2 to do so at the Stade Louis II too.
Young England internationals Harry Kane and Andros Townsend grabbed Tottenham’s goals in the friendly with Monaco last time out, and are respective 7/4 and 7/2 chances to score again anytime.
A draw may be the best match outcome, however, as the hosts shared the spoils in their opener with Anderlecht and Spurs have done so three times in the Premier League this season already. The two sides are 9/4 to claim a point each.
Coral’s top tip: Monaco and Spurs will be looking to get one over the other as they bid for Europa League success, so this clash could produce lots of goals. Take odds of 15/2 for there to be more than 4.5.
