McClaren and Mourinho favourites to go
As the Premier League season progresses, now in its 10th matchweek, inevitably pressure will be on managers whose club’s are lingering near the bottom of the table.
Tim Sherwood became the third casualty of the season at the weekend, after Aston Villa succumbed to a miserable sixth straight loss in the top flight, and eighth overall, following a late winner by Swansea City at Villa Park.
Coral already have a market available to customers for next Villans manager, with former Arsenal and France player Remi Garde the odds-on 1/3 favourite. David Moyes (5/1), Brendan Rodgers (8/1) and Nigel Pearson (10/1) also feature high up in the betting.
The departure of Sherwood means that the likes of Steve McClaren (even-money favourite) and Jose Mourinho’s (9/4) odds to be the next Premier League boss to go with Coral have shortened, after their respective teams were beaten too.
McClaren let down by his skipper
Despite gaining a confidence-boosting 6-2 victory over Norwich City the week before, Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini let McClaren down at the end of the first half when his side were seemingly on top.
The Argentine barged down Steven Fletcher in the area when he was through on goal to get his marching orders, which ultimately completely turned around the game as the Magpies lost 3-0 to leave them on six points and in 19th place.
Discipline hinders the Blues
Chelsea coach Mourinho, meanwhile, had his own discipline issues too, as he was sent to the stands at half-time, after both his assistant and Nemanja Matic also saw red before the break.
What made matters worse was that they went on to lose to their London rivals West Ham United, despite a brief moment of hope as Gary Cahill equalised after Mauro Zarate’s opener, which now puts the Blues down in 15th.
Coral are offering an umber of Mourinho specials as a result. You can take odds of 11/8 for him not to be manager of Chelsea on January 1st 2016, while he is 16/1 to go before the Liverpool Premier League match on October 31st. Chelsea are now out at 40/1 to somehow defend their title, however, and a great price of 3/1 to finish fourth.
Monk and Neil not safe either
It may seem a surprise that Swansea’s Garry Monk stands next in the market at 8/1. His side may not have had the greatest of starts to the campaign, but are up in 12th and on 13 points after their triumph over Villa, and surely Monk’s record the past couple of seasons will save him through a minor blip?
One man that really does need a win, though, is Norwich’s Alex Neil (16/1), whose Canaries have lost their last three and are on a run of five matches without a victory. Their most recent defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion will have done Neil no favours, but the East Anglia outfit are still just above the dropzone by three points.
