Take terrific 21/10 odds with Coral for Rosberg to be fastest qualifier

Just before the heavens decided to completely open to whitewash the second practice session at Formula 1’s USA Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg was most impressive in the first, ahead of Red Bull duo Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

The 30-year-old will aim to give it his all this weekend in the fourth-from-last race of the season, in his bid to somehow overtake his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and lift the Drivers’ Championship title.

As things currently stand, despite the Englishman being 66 points ahead of second-placed Sebastian Vettel, the two German drivers are still in with a shout – Rosberg is just seven behind the four-time champion.

Rosberg is “focused”

“My frame of mind is nothing to lose. I want to win and I have the opportunity to win. It’s a great target to have this weekend. I’m focused,” Rosberg said ahead of the weekend.

“I’ve never thought about finishing third because with my car I’m still on for first at the moment and that’s what I’m thinking about.

“It’s tough because I’m realistic also, and I need a lot of luck as well and all that. I’m fixed for that until you tell me it’s not possible anymore.”

Rosberg may also be boosted in his bid to be fastest qualifier, if the following practices and qualifiers are called off due to the weather. According to the rules, as he was quickest in practice, it is likely the organisers will award him pole position anyway.

German is in flying qualifying form

However, if the sessions do go ahead as planned before the race on Sunday, there is still no need to panic, as Rosberg was fastest qualifier here last year too, before he ultimately came second behind Hamilton.

On top of that, he is on a run of two successive pole positions, after he did so at the Japanese and Russian Grands Prix.

With Hamilton merely aiming to stay on the track for the final three weekends to gain jus enough points to claim his third world title, that means he is unlikely to go all out.

So, that is why this bet in Rosberg’s favour is too enticing not to take with Coral.
