Wolverhampton preview: First Rebellion can collect for Carroll

| 14.09.2015

Trainer Tony Carroll has his team in good form, and First Rebellion can take advantage of a drop in the weights to provide him with another success in the 6f handicap at Wolverhampton today (15.10).

The gelding is a course and distance winner who was last successful when landing a 5f contest at the venue back in February.

First Rebellion showed a good attitude to dig deep and score by a neck off a mark of 55, and was harshly put up 6lb for that victory.

The six-year-old has since struggled to make an impact, but is now able to race off 54 having posted his best effort for a long time when fourth over 7f at Brighton when last seen in action.

That gives First Rebellion every chance from a handicapping perspective in a weak class 6 contest, and the drop back down to 6f is sure to suit.

First Rebellion also has the services of crack apprentice Tom Marquand in the saddle, who is terrific value for his 3lb claim, so taking it into account the son of Cockney Rebel looks weighted to take all the beating.

In the other 6f handicap on the card (15.40), Saffire Song looks decent value to to score an overdue success.

The Alan Bailey trained filly is on a long losing run having ot scored since landing a 5f contest at Southwell back in February 2014 off a mark of 66. Saffire Song got put up 7lb for that success, but ran well of her revised rating of 73 when fourth at this venue.

Since then the daughter of Firebreak has largely been out of form, but she did run well three starts back over course and when runner-up off 54.

The four-year-old is now able to race off a career-low all-weather rating of just 53, 13lb lower than when last successful, and that gives her major claims at the weights on the pick of her form.

It’s also interesting that connections are now refitting Saffire Song with the visor, and if it has the desired effect this looks a nice opportunity for her to get on the scoresheet.
