Super League: Wigan Warriors face Catalans Dragons in the Super 8s
Published:
Wigan travel London to play Catalans Dragons in their next Super 8s match, at Millwall FC, in an effort to attract more of a crowd from the capital city.
They are odds-on at 1/7 with Coral to win and coach Shaun Wane is looking forward to the change of venue saying: “If we could send another game there in the season, I’d be all for it.
“There are benefits to the game of rugby league – we can’t be so precious to play all our games at home and look after Wigan Warriors.
“I love this sport, I think it’s the best in the world, and I want more to see it, including the big blue chip companies in London. I’m talking huge companies, and they’re coming to this game. To get them involved with us, and involved with rugby league, is an opportunity we can’t give up.”
General manager and club legend, Kris Radlinski added: “The important thing at this stage is to win the game – for us to go there and then lose wouldn’t be looked at favourably by the fans.
“After Saturday, we’ll review it – we’d be foolish not to take the feedback from the fans and Millwall,” he continued.
“When you make a decision like this you will ruffle a few feathers and have to accept that you’ll upset a few people, and it’s a calculated gamble. With the marketing that’s taken place down there, and the presence we have on the Tube, if we get around the 10,000 mark I think that’d be a real success.”
Following a terrific 28-0 win over Warrington Wolves last time out, they will be hoping to put on quite a show. John Bateman crossed twice and is 5/4 to do so again anytime.
Super League’s joint-top try scorer, Joe Burgess meanwhile, is 6/1 to crash over first and crossed in the Cherry and Whites heavy 58-16 win against the Dragons earlier in the season.
Zeb Taia and Tony Gigot both picked up a hat-trick in the match and are 7/4 anytime, while the irrepressible Morgan Escare, who also crossed is 6/5 in the same market.
