Salisbury preview: Mayfair Lady can complete hat-trick

Published:

Mayfair Lady won in stunning style last time out and can take the step up into Group 3 company in her stride to land the 6f Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury today (15.45).

The Richard Fahey trained juvenile has shown improved in each of her four starts, winning the last two in emphatic fashion.

In the first of those at Pontefract, Mayfair Lady stormed clear to beat Fast Enough by seven lengths despite hanging.

Fast Enough went on to score next time up by 3 1/4 lengths, and the manner in which Mayfair Lady disposed of that rival was impressive and suggested she needed keeping firmly onside.

That view was confirmed when the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor turned a competitive 18-runner nursery at York into a procession.

Mayfair Lady showed blistering early speed to make all and win easing down by five lengths, and the third home Whitman has since come out and landed a Listed contest at Ripon.

That gives the form a rock solid look, and suggests that Mayfair Lady should be well up to winning a race of this nature.

In the 6f nursery (14.10), Zlatan is a fascinating contender on handicap debut following an eye-catching effort last time out.

The Ed de Giles trained colt has looked a work in progress in three starts to date, shaping as if badly in need of the experience but showing steady improvement on each outing.

In the last of those at Windsor, Zlatan posted his best effort yet when sixth of 13 to Dancing Star.

The son of Dark Angel kept on well under tender handling to be beaten 5 3/4 lengths after being switched when denied a clear run two from home, and it was a performance which suggested there was better to come.

Zlatan looks to have been brought along steadily with nurseries in mind, and an opening handicap mark of 67 may well underestimate his ability.
