Newmarket preview: Somerville Tattersall Stakes (15.40)

Tasleet is a progressive juvenile with top class for to his name and looks the answer to a cracking renewal of the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket (15.40).
The William Haggas trained colt caught the eye in no uncertain fashion when fourth on debut at York, running very green throughout before keeping on under tender handling to be gaining at the finish and beaten 3 1/4 lengths.
Tasleet duly showed the benefit of that experience when bolting up by three lengths at Chepstow, before following up in impressive fashion in a Listed contest at Newbury.
The son of Showcasing raced keenly in the latter, but made smooth headway from off the pace to challenge on the bridle at the furlong marker before showing a devastating turn of foot in the final 100 yards to win by a neck.
Tasleet then found leading two-year-old Shalaa too good when beaten 2 3/4 lengths in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood before defying top weight to get back to winning ways in a valuable 6f sales races at York last time out.
He showed a good attitude and turn of pace to win going away by 1/2 a length in the latter, and the manner in which Tasleet finished off the race suggested the step up to today’s 7f trip would suit.
Overseas raiders Lawmaking and Sanus Per Aquam are both held in high regard and look the ones most likely to give Tasleet most to think about.
The former is trained in France by Andre Fabre whose runners on these shores always command the utmost respect.
After finishing third on debut at Deauville in late July, Lawmaking was stepped up into Group 3 company and went down by just a head in in the Prix La Rochette at Longchamp earlier in the month.
It was a very promising performance, and although this demands much more Fabre sees the son of Zamindar as a potential Guineas horse for next year.
Sanus Per Aquam is trained in Ireland by Jim Bolger and won his first two starts in the manner of a very exciting prospect.
The son of Teofilo was the surprisingly turned over when sent of the 1/3 favourite and beaten 1/2 length in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown, and pulled too hard last time our in another Group 3 contest over 1m at the same venue when third to Jan Vermeer.
Sanus Per Aquam will appreciate the drop back in trip, and remains a smart prospect for a yard that regularly plunder big prizes with it’s raiders from across the Irish Sea.
