Coral’s Heroes and Villains: Magical Martial and chokers Chelsea

Another eventful weekend in the Premier League where nothing went to plan, we give you a brief summary of what happened in our Heroes and Villains weekly feature. Read on to find out who made out list!

Heroes

Steven Naismith
When the Scotsman arrived at Goodison Park a few hours before kick-off to find out he was named as a substitute, not in his dizziest daydreams would he have expected to come on in the first few minutes and go onto win Everton’s match against Chelsea single-handed.

A sublime perfect hat-trick sealed a 3-1 win against the Premier League champions, though he was a constant thorn in the Blues’ side from the moment he came on, occupying pockets of space and drifting in between the lines, which led to both of his first half goals.

Anthony Martial
What a debut! Much was made of his staggering £36m move from Monaco, though this talented teenager certainly went some way to justifying the price tag as Manchester United, 11/1 to win the Premier League, beat rivals Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford. Magnificent Martial finished in a fashion not dissimilar to compatriot Thierry Henry.

Odion Ighalo
The Nigerian striker was Watford’s hero as the Hornets secured their first win of the season in the English top-flight against a disappointing Swansea side, who had been excellent so far. Quique Sánchez Flores’ outfit are 9/5 to be relegated.

Villains

Valon Behrami
A rash challenge from the Swiss midfielder reduced Watford to 10 men against Swansea, after he clattered Andre Ayew. It was perhaps his stamp after which made the referee’s mind up though, and his ill-discipline may cost the Hornets for the next three games.

Chelsea
It’s getting desperate for the Blues. They were a shadow of the side they were last season in their defeat to Everton and look low on confidence all-round. Jose Mourinho could well be on borrowed time already and needs results fast.

Aston Villa
To be leading 2-0 away from home and then lose tells you everything you need to know about Villa at this stage. They need to be killing games off and a failure to do so against the Foxes suggests they still have work to do, though once Tim Sherwood calms down he can take at least a couple of positives from this match.
