Carlisle preview: Golden chance for Gone With The Wind

Published:

Gone With The Wind posted a cracking effort when runner-up last time out and can go one better to land the 1m handicap on today’s card at Carlisle (17.15).

The gelding landed back-to-back contests at Lingfield and Kempton in the early part of last year when trained by Jeremy Noseda, with the last of those successes coming off a mark of 76.

Gone With The Wind went on to finish a solid third at Kempton off 75, after which his form tailed off. Now in the care of Rebecca Bastiman, the four-year-old is able to race in this off just 62 having returned to form in his last three outings.

In the last of those over 1m 1f at Musselburgh, the son of Dutch Art looked to have been produced with a well-time run from off the pace to land the spoils until being chinned on the line and beaten a short-head by Six Silver Lane.

That form reads well in the context of this contest, and the drop back in trip will hold no fears for Gone With The Wind.

In the extended 5f handicap (18.15), Slim Chance is weighted to go well at a big price now returned to a venue she runs well.

The Simon West trained mare has won once and been placed three times in six runs at the track, and was last successful 12 months ago at Hamilton when scoring by two lengths off a mark of 71.

Slim Chance got put up to 80 for that that victory and it’s fair to say that she has largely failed to make an impact this season.

However, the six-year-old did run well five starts back at this venue when third off a rating of 73 in a class 4 contest and is now able to race in this lower grade class 5 affair off just 67.

That is 4lb lower than when last successful and makes Slim Chance dangerously well handicapped on the pick of her form.
