York Ebor Festival 2015: Lowther Stakes preview (14.30)
Lumiere created a huge impression when scoring on debut and can take the step up into Group 2 company in her stride to land the 6f Lowther Stakes at York (14.30), on the second day of the Ebor Festival.
The Mark Johnston trained filly was backed of the boards into 6/5 favourite to land an eight-runner contest at Newmarket and her supporters never had an anxious moment.
After breaking well, Lumiere made all and only had to be shaken-up entering the final furlong to quicken clear and beat Sharja Queen by six lengths.
Jockey William Buick was able to ease down before the line, and the daughter of Shamardal won with any amount in hand.
It was a scintillating performance which marked Lumiere out a a potential star in the making, and one which saw her installed as Coral’s 10/1 favourite for next year’s 1000.
This will tell us much more about Lumiere’s classic aspirations, but there is little doubt that she has a huge engine and could be anything.
She is also a strapping sort who looks open to any amount of improvement, and with Buick once again in the saddle looks a worthy favourite to land the spoils before going on to better things.
Ashadihan, Besharah and Easton Angel all bring solid Group form into the contest and command plenty of respect, but those looking for some each-way value could do far worse than Quiet Reflection.
The Karl Burke trained filly looked a smart prospect on debut at Hamilton when hardly having to beak sweat to score by five lengths.
Quiet Reflection travelled strongly throughout on the heels of the leaders before being produced at the furlong marker to saunter clear under a motionless Joey Haynes.
The daughter of Showcasing could not have been any more impressive, and although this represents a big step up in class Quiet Reflection is held in the highest regard and it would be no surprise to see her run a huge race.
Coral’s top tip: Lumiere is a very exciting prospect and looks a solid bet to land the spoils. Quiet Reflection represents each-way value
