Super League: Wigan take on Warrington in Super 8s

Following a 17-16 defeat to Castleford Tigers last time out, Warrington coach, Tony Smith has called for his players to “show pride” against Wigan, after conceding his team are unlikely to reach the Super League play-offs.

The Wolves are 7/4 to beat the Warriors, who lost 25-18 to Leeds Rhinos previously and Smith wants his side to perform at their very best: “Rugby league is about going out to try your hardest to win each and every week, regardless of whether you can make finals,” the Wolves head coach said in the aftermath of the Tigers’ loss.

“When you cross that white line you’ve got to play for the pride of your club and teammates.

“We’ve got a big fixture next week against Wigan, and regardless of whether we can mathematically make it or not, we need to go out their and perform to our best.”

Richie Myler who crossed twice last time out, is 13/8 to breach the in-goal area again anytime, while Kevin Penny who also scored is odds-on at 10/11 in the same market.

Myler scored in the 17-6 win against Wigan earlier in the season, while Ryan Atkins and Gareth O’Brien also had joy in that department. The latter duo are 11/8 and 11/4 respectively to do so again anytime.

Wigan, meanwhile, have had two successful results over the Wolves already this season, which is why they are odds-on 4/9 favourites to triumph once more.

Dominic Manfredi chalked up a hat-trick of tries in the 30-20 victory over the Cheshire outfit in April and the winger who has been in sensational form for the Cherry and Whites this campaign is odds-on at 8/11 to breach the whitewash again anytime.

Second row Liam Farrell crossed for a brace last time out in the defeat to the Rhinos, while he has also had success against Smith’s side this season and is well-priced at 5/4 to score again anytime.

Joe Burgess, though, who was joined at the top of the Super League scoring charts by Hull FC centre Tom Lineham last time out on 21, is not fit enough to play, so his replacement Oliver Gildart is 5/4 to scamper over first.
