Start of new season to spark £50 million football betting boom

Britain’s bookmakers are braced for a 50 million betting boom this weekend, as punters welcome in the eagerly anticipated new football season.

“Much like the Premier League itself, football betting continues to grow bigger and bigger each season, and after a summer without a major tournament, this weekend cant come quickly enough for the millions of punters who enjoy a flutter on the beautiful game,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“Last season saw the bookies get hit on more than one occasion as a host of fancied teams all won on the same weekend, ensuring plenty of the millions wagered found its way back to the punters, and they’ll be hoping for more of the same this time around, starting this weekend when up to 50 million could change hands,” reckoned Stevens.

Ahead of the new season, Coral has also unveiled two unique new football offerings available to its shop customers.  Starting this weekend are Acca Stack and Top Price League Leader:

“Acca Stacka is a new coupon featuring a range of matches similar to those on the regular long list, but every week we choose one team on the coupon to act as the free selection [This will always be an odds-on favourite, this week is Chelsea].  Customers then pick a minimum of a further five match results, if the free selection and the selected results all win, the returns are paid at full odds.  If the free selection is a loser but the customer’s selections all win, bets will be settled on their own selections,” Stevens explained.

“Top Price League Leaders will see us guarantee to be top or joint top price on a minimum of 11 of the 22 top two teams across the biggest European leagues each week.  [Leagues included are Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2 (England).  Premier & Championship (Scotland).  La Liga (Spain).  Serie A (Italy).  Ligue 1 (France).  Eredivisie (Holland)],” Stevens concluded.

Chelsea are 7-4 favourites with Coral to retain the Premier League title, ahead of Manchester City at 12-5, while Watford are odds-on favourites to be relegated immediately back to the Championship.  City’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is 9-4 favourite to be the leading scorer, with Chelsea’s Diego Costa next in the betting at 5-1.
