Lingfield preview: Colourfilly has bright prospects of opening account

Colourfilly shaped really well on seasonal reappearance and looks to have been found a golden opportunity to open her account in the 1m 2f handicap on today’s all-weather card at Lingfield (17.10).

The Ed Walker trained filly showed progressive form in three runs last year, and was heavily-backed to make a winning handicap debut on return to action at Nottingham three weeks ago.

Colourfilly was unable to land the gamble, but shaped like a sure fire future winner.

After being held-up towards the rear, the three-year-old made headway on the inside three from home before being denied a clear run at the two marker.

Colourfilly lost momentum at a vital stage, but when seeing daylight stayed on in eye-catching fashion to finish a three length fourth of 10 to Venutius.

The daughter of Compton Place finished with running left in her, and it was an effort which suggested Colourfilly was ahead of her mark of 62.

That was also just Colourfilly’s first run after 218 days on the sidelines, and she remains unexposed and open to further improvement after just four career starts.

In the 6f handicap (16.40), Saskia’s Dream can take advantage of a drop in the weights to score an overdue success.

The Jane Chapple-Hyam trained mare is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing a class 5 handicap at Brighton back in September 2013 off a mark of 61.

However, the seven-year-old has posted a whole host of solid efforts to make the frame and is now able to race in this class 6 contest off a rating of 56.

That gives Saskia’s Dream every chance from a handicapping perspective, and the daughter of Oasis Dream comes into the contest on the back of four solid runs.

Another plus is that Saskia’s Dream gets the services in the saddle of George Baker for the first time, and he looks the perfect pilot to produce her late and get her head in front where it matters.

Selections:
14.10: Q Ten Girl
14.40: Southern Belle
15.10: Mr Cripps
15.40: Meetings Man
16.10: Deftera Lad
16.40: Saskia’s Dream (NB)
17.10: Colourfilly (NAP)
