Leicester City, 13/5 with Coral for a top 10 finish, have signed defensive midfielder Gokhan Inler from Serie A side Napoli for a reported fee in the region of £3m, plus potential add-ons.

The Foxes originally looked to have failed in their attempts to capture the 83-capped Switzerland captain, amid apparent interest from Fiorentina, but their perseverance has paid off.

Former Udinese midfield marshal Inler, who joins on a three-year deal, is the King Power club’s sixth signing of the summer, and the second capture under new coach Claudio Ranieri.

It seems as though the new Foxes boss played a big part in Inler’s decision, as the experienced addition stated: “I’m very happy and proud to play here because we’ve been in discussions for a long time. I’ve spoken with the manager and I’m very happy to be here because it’s a nice team…the manager was important for me.

“For me it was not so easy because I had many, many teams [chasing me] but in the end I decided with my heart and I came Leicester City,” added the midfield marshal.

The Midlands men have been searching for an Esteban Cambiasso replacement to bring balance and composure to the middle of the park, and Basel academy product Inler should fit the bill, having spent four terms manning Campania club Napoli’s engine room.

Excellent in breaking up and anticipating opposition attacks, the Foxes will be hoping the Swiss star fits Ranieri’s system like a glove and takes to Premier League life quickly.

Despite their superb start to the season, Leicester previously escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last term, and will need Inler to be a top class conductor and shore-up their spine. Having also added young-gun N’Golo Kante to their ranks, the Foxes could field an entirely new-look midfield.

A Swiss international of Turkish descent, 31-year-old Inler made 33 appearances for the Little Donkeys across all competitions last campaign, netting once, so should be a consistent presence for the King Power club as they seek to push-on.
