Kempton preview: Coolcalmcollected too hot to handle

| 12.08.2015

Coolcalmcollected has a progressive profile and can make light of a rise in the weights to land the 1m handicap on this evening’s seven-race card at Kempton (20.40).

The filly, who is trained by the in-form Chris Wall, has shown improved form since going handicapping.

After finishing an eye-catching staying on third at Leicester, the three-year-old scored in impressive fashion at Sandown last month off a mark of 65.

Coolcalmcollected made all in the latter in the hands of George Baker and ran on strongly when challenged inside the final furlong to score with far more in hand than the winning margin of 1 1/2 lengths suggests.

It was an effort which suggested the daughter of Acclamation needed keeping firmly onside, and a 5lb rise in the weights looks on the lenient side.

Another plus is that Wall has a healthy strike rate of 21 per cent with his runners at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue in the past 12 months which has produced a profit of just over £33 to a £1 level stake, and with Baker once again in the saddle this looks a nice opening for Coolcalmcollected to go in again.

Trainer Roger Varian has his team in terrific shape, and Alizoom can take advantage of an ease in grade to provide the Newmarket handler with another winner in the 6f nursery (19.40).

The colt opened his account at the fourth time of in emphatic fashion when making all to score by 3 3/4 lengths at Windsor.

Alizoom backed that up with cracking 3/4 length second on handicap debut at Thirsk when beaten just 3/4 of a length by Astley Hall in a decent class 3 contest.

The son of Invincible Spirit stayed on strongly after losing vital ground when dwelling at the start, and the form reads extremely well in the context of this lower grade class 4 affair.

Although now 2lb higher in the weights, Alizoom looks the type who has more to offer and is clearly going the right way for a yard that can do little wrong at present.
