Leading bookmaker Coral make England 1-20 to win the Fourth Test against Australia which would be enough for them to seal the Ashes series.

Joe Root, who resumes tomorrow on 124, is 9-4 to make a double century, while England are 4-6 to score 400 runs or more in the first innings and 2-1 to rack up over 500 runs.

“It was a day to remember for England who, according to the betting, are now on the brink of winning this Ashes series. Punters were quick to latch onto the Three Lions this morning in our in-play betting and those who were able to get on at odds against are sitting pretty now going into day two,” said Coral’s John Hill.

In the BBC Sports Personality of the Year betting, Stuart Broad has been cut into 9-1 (from 100-1) by Coral following his eight wicket haul in the first innings. Root has also been slashed after his latest century for the award where he is now available at 12-1 (from 16-1)

Coral is also betting on who will win the Team of the Year at the award ceremony where they now make the England cricket team the 15-8 favourites on the back of an outstanding start to the Fourth Test, where victory would be enough to seal the Ashes.

“Stuart Broad produced one of the finest spells of bowling ever from an England cricketer and to do it at the biggest stage of them all in international Test cricket, the Ashes, he has thrown himself into the running to win the Sports Personality of the Year where his price has collapsed from 100-1 into 11-1, all in the space of a few hours,” added Hill.
