Coral’s live updates from the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge

Day Three

Thank you for joining us this Test at Trent Bridge. You can catch the action with Coral again for the fifth and final encounter at the Oval, where England will attempt to win four matches in an Ashes series for the first time since they thrashed the Aussies 5-1 away in 1978–79.

In an attempt to spoil England’s party, Michael Clarke has announced his international retirement, but will play the final Test at the Oval. The home players don’t seem to notice, however.

Wonderful effort from England to regain the famous urn, their fourth straight Ashes series win on home soil and fifth out of the last seven both home and away.

(11:40) ALL OUT! the Ashes are England’s again. Wood with the final wicket to bowl out Nathan Lyon. England win the fourth Tests by and innings and 78 runs.

Top stats all round… Australia are 83 runs behind.

(11:27) HALF CENTURY! Just before the end, Voges battles his way to a 50 after a quick single, but he doesn’t really celebrate.

(11:24) WICKET! Ducks flying everywhere this match, as Josh Hazlewood now goes for nothing after Mark Wood bowls him out. 243-9. Get ready to jump off your seats!

Top stats…

(11:12) WICKET! Early wicket, and Ben Stokes is the man again for his sixth of the innings. Starc (0) edges to Ian Bell in the slips. 242-8.

(10:59) PLAY BEGINS. And we’re off. Adam Voges (48) and Mitchell Starc (0) the batsmen.

How soon will England win? Drinks? Before lunch? After that?

Reports before the start of play suggest that Australia skipper Michael Clarke is set top retire, most likely after the fifth Test at the Oval.

Going by history in any sport, it is never wise at any stage to believe that England have won, but this time you can be forgiven for celebrating early. Australia are currently on 241-7 and still 90 runs behind the hosts’ first innings score, so expect Alastair Cook and and co to wrap up the match and thus the Ashes series today.

(10:13) Good morning cricket fans, and once again it seems we’ll only be able to entertain you for a third day, after the last Test at Edgbaston also ended at this stage.

Day Two

Thank you for joining us today, catch us tomorrow for the Ashes action again, where England will presumably finish off the match and series.

(18:27) STUMPS. Australia finish the day on 241-7, 90 runs behind England’s first innings total.

(18:20) WICKET! Stokes gets a five-wicket haul as he dismisses Johnson for 5. 236-7.

(18:03) WICKET! Nevill out for 17, as Stokes traps him LBW. 224-6, trail by 107.

(17:34) Double ton up! Aussies reach 201-5.

(16:50) WICKET! Clarke out for 13. Wood with the wicket, caught by Bell.

(16:22) Voges (6 off 19) and Clarke (7 off 17) slowly trying to stabilise their nation’s innings. 153-4, trail by 178.

(16:00) Evening session begins. Adam Voges and Michael ‘Can’t Bat Anymore’ Clarke in the middle.

(15:42) TEA. And what a fine tea it will be for England. Nearly cigar time. Australia looking perilous at 193 runs behind with 6 wickets remaining. 138-4.

Can England finish this today?

(15:38) KEY WICKET! Broad gets his ninth wicket of the match, as Smith (5) walks after being caught by Stokes. England have really worked out the world number one Test batsman. 136-4, Aussies trail by 195.

(15:35) WICKET! Yes! Joe ‘Safe Hands’ Root grabs onto another, as Stokes takes his third wicket. Shaun Marsh is the man to go on 2. 136-3.

(15:26) WICKET! Stokes gets a second, as Warner (64) smacks it high in the air for Broad to catch. That’s more like it. Australia are 130-2, but still 201 runs behind.

(15:19) HALF CENTURY! In an incident-packed past half hour or so, Warner now reaches 50, and follows it with another fantastic six.

(15:17) WICKET! Is… is it out this time? It is, but only just as Stokes’ foot is safe! Root with another fantastic catch, an exact replica of his no ball catch. Rogers (52) is the man to go. Australia now 113-1, trail by 218.

(15:12) HALF CENTURY! Rogers grinds out a 50 to help the Aussies to 110-0.

(15:08) NOT OUT! An angry cheers by England fans is followed by an angry moan as Wood bowls a no ball. Great catch by Root in then slips, though.

(15:07) TON UP! Aussies roll on to 101-0 to now reduce the deficit to 226.

To remember more happy times, here is Broad’s now famous reaction to Stokes’ catch…

Here is that millionth ball in Test cricket again…

(14:42) DROPPED! Another dropped catch in the slips, this time by Ian Bell from Warner (42). England took all their chances in the first innings, but it’s as if they washed their hands with butter during lunch! Get a grip lads, literally!

(14:39) Incredibly Stokes bowls the millionth delivery in Test cricket. No idea how the statsmen managed to work that out. Warner hits it for four.

(14:35) Spinner Ali takes the ball for the first time this match. Can he make the breakthrough?

With the Baggy Greens now 262 runs behind England’s first innings score with 10 wickets remaining, you can take tempting odds of 19/4 in Coral’s in-play betting for them to record perhaps the greatest ever comeback win.

(14:27) Australia reach 61 without loss, to surpass their first innings total. It is fair to say that Rogers (28) and Warner (26) look far more comfortable than yesterday at the crease.

(14:17) 50 UP! Aussies reach 50, but only just as Rogers nearly hits his own wicket with an inside edge. 50-0 now, in stark contrast to their first innings when they had lost nine wickets by this stage.

(14:14) Brilliant hit by Warner (24), as he smashes Steven Finn for six to add to an expensive over. 47-0, trail by 284.

(14:07) DROPPED! Wonderful delivery by Broad to Warner, who edges into the slips. However captain Cook drops a sitter. 32-0.

(13:47) NOT OUT! England review an LBW decision, but Wood’s delivery is shown to be not out.

(13:43) Afternoon session begins.

(13:04) LUNCH. Broad has a stormer of an over against David Warner in the final over before the break, despite being unable to claim a wicket. Australia are 14-0 at lunch, and 317 behind.

(12:54) Big LBW appeal from Broad against Rogers, but the umpire says no.

(12:50) Broad readies himself in a bid to add to his 8 first innings wickets, as he opens to Chris Rogers.

(12:41) Out of the blue, Alastair Cook and England DECLARE on 391-9, with a lead of 331. The hosts will now have a second go bowling at the Aussies’ batsmen.

(12:31) WICKET! Ali (38) out after a fine catch from Steve Smith in the slips. Mitchell Johnson gets his first wicket of the match. 390-9, ahead by 330.

(12:33) Another six smashed, this time from Broad (23). Ali on 27. England now 379-8, lead by 319.

(12:18) Broad and Ali kicking on now.

(12:13) Moeen Ali (18) HITS FOR SIX! The all-rounder and Broad (7) have stopped the flow of wickets for now.

(11:52) WICKET! Josh Hazlewood gets his second wicket, as Stokes (5) edges to keeper Peter Nevill. England wickets tumbling almost as fast as Australia were yesterday… Thankfully there is a 272 lead, though.

(11:44) WICKET! Starc takes another and is literally the one Aussie to shine this Test at Trent Bridge so far. He clean bowls Jos Buttler (12) too. England now 320-7 and lead by 260.

(11:33) WICKET! Wood’s terrific knock of 28 comes to an end after being clean bowled by Starc, who gets a five-wicket haul. 306-6.

(11:29) TRIPLE TON UP! Hosts pass 300, as Wood reaches 23, hitting fours galore.

(11:24) WICKET! Root finally out for 130, Mitchell Starc again with the wicket, his fourth of the innings. England still going strong on 297-5, lead by 237.

(11:00) Play begins. Root (124) and nightwatchman Mark Wood (2) in bat.

Just before play begins, watch this fantastic vine of Australia’s first innings yesterday…

Is there any way back for the Aussies? They are 16/1 for victory.

While Root is playing superbly in the middle, he was not the only one to prosper on day one, as Broad took astonishing bowling figures of 8-15 and Jonny Bairstow hit 74 with the bat.

One of the highlights of yesterday’s action was no doubt Ben Stokes’ catch from Stuart Broad’s delivery to get Adam Voges out.

If you fancy a bet, England’s heavy odds-on price of 1/25 with Coral is admittedly not the most enticing, so why not back Joe Root to record a double ton this innings at a highly tempting 9/4. He is currently on 124 not out.

(10:00) Good morning folks, and what a fine morning it is for England cricket fans. I’m sure you all had to pinch yourselves when you woke up to check you weren’t still dreaming; but yes England did skittle Australia all out for 60, and yes the hosts do lead by 214, as they are on 274-4.

Day One

(18:36) STUMPS! Play ends on day one at Trent Bridge with England on 274-4, a lead of 214 runs. Dark day for the Aussies. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Tune in again tomorrow!

(18:22) WICKET! Bairstow goes for 74, caught by Rodgers from Hazlewood’s delivery. England are 269-4, a lead of 209 runs!

Mark Wood in next at Trent Bridge, as nightwatchman…

(18:18) HIT FOR SIX! Oh my, Australian cricket is suffering, and their pain is Root’s gain!

Piers Morgan is pretty confident…

(18:14) And, right on cue, the lead goes past 200 runs…

(18:11) England’s lead stretches further, 250 plus now at 253-3. Soon the advantage will be 200 runs!

(18:05) The Root-Bairstow partnership now reaches 150. It’s almost cruel, and the stat below is really rubbing it in for the Aussies…

(17:53) CENTURY for Root, an eighth in England Test cricket. What a hit for a 17th four and all there in 128 balls!

(17:51) LBW appeals against Root, but Michael Clarke is wise enough not to review it. Mitchell Johnson’s delivery was swinging away, and then some!

(17:38) England move more than 150 runs ahead of the Aussies on 213-3, as Bairstow gets his HALF CENTURY! Replays show no contact, but nobody supporting England will complain…

(17:26) DOUBLE TON UP! Root takes England onto 205-3 as he hits a brace of fours! Ten runs more from him, and we’ll have a century on our hands…

(17:24) Hundred partnership after Root hits consecutive fours to also move onto 90 himself. 197-3.

Great stats…

(17:16) Nothing going Australia’s way right now, as Bairstow hits a massive edge for four over the slips.

As Yorkshire duo Root (81) and Bairstow (35) kick on in the crease, their county coach and former Australia bowler Tweets…

(17:11) England now lead by 120, double Australia’s first innings score. 181-3.

A reminder of Australia’s first innings batting scorecard. Hilarious reading…

(16:54) Bairstow reaches 30, half Australia’s first innings total.

(16:51) England lead by 101! Root on 69, Bairstow 24. 161-3.

(16:39) Root reaches 62 runs, more than the entire Aussie first innings score. 150-3.

(16:21) HALF CENTURY! Root (52) reaches the milestone for his 14th in Test cricket. It’s his third 50 this Ashes series, meanwhile, on top of his 134 scored in Cardiff. England now 123-3, and lead by 63.

(16:01) 100 Up! 103-3, lead by 43.

(16:00) Evening session begins.

(15:41) TEA. England reach 99-3, and lead by 39 at tea. In-form Yorkshire duo Root (33) and Jonny Bairstow (2) are the batsmen currently in.

(15:32) WICKET! Cook out LBW for 43, but he leads England to 96-3.

(15:00) DROPPED! Steve Smith drops Cook (33), but should he have left it for Clarke? 69-2.

Couple of good stats here…

(14:56) England surpass Australia’s 60 total as Joe Root (12) hits a four. 61-2.

(14:48) 50 UP! Hosts trail by just 10 now. Cook on 27, Root 4.

(14:47) England reach 49-2, Australia were 9 wickets down at this point.

(14:39) England edging ever nearer to Australia’s paltry total of 60. 44-2.

(14:28) WICKET! Bell is trapped out LBW, though, as Starc takes his second wicket. England review, but to no avail. 34-2.

(14:26) Ian Bell (1) off the mark, so be equal or better than five Aussies in their first innings. 33-1, trail by 27. Australia had lost 7 wickets by this stage.

Betting was temporarily suspended in Coral’s in-play Ashes betting, but has re-opened after Lyth’s dismissal. England still heavily odds-on at 1/12 for victory, Australia out at 15/2.

(14:16) WICKET! Lyth’s low scores continue as he’s out for 14 (more than any Baggy Greens batsman), giving Australia at least something to cheer about. Starc takes the dismissal as the opener is caught behind by Nevill. 32-1, England trail by 28.

(14:08) England reach 30 without loss, to trail by 30…

Lyth showing the Aussies how they should’ve played, by leaving it!

(14:05) England 29-0 (Lyth 12, Cook 16), trail by 31. Australia had lost 6 wickets by this stage – don’t worry we won’t get bored of this.

(13:54) Cook hits a four to reach 15 runs, more than any Australian in their first innings. 26-0.

(13:51) England 21-0, trail by 39. Australia had lost 5 wickets by this stage in their innings.

(13:40) Afternoon session begins. Cook on strike.

(13:01) LUNCH. England survive the session without loss. 13-0. Australia had lost three wickets by that point.

(12:50) Lyth hits a four to already surpass six of Australia’s individual scorers in just his second delivery. 4-0, England trail by 56 and avoid the follow-on.

(12:49) England’s first innings begins.

Praise galore on Twitter…

(12:39) ALL OUT! And breath, take a moment to just allow what has happened in the last hour or so settle. Australia all out for just 60, yes 60. Broad the hero as he takes figures of 8-15 from his 9.3 overs. Johnson the top human scorer with 13 (extras with 14), meanwhile.

And the top scorer this innings for Australia goes to… Extras, with 14.

(12:35) Been almost five overs since a wicket! What on earth is happening? C’mon England, useless. Josh Hazlewood (4 off 15) and Nathan Lyon (5 off 18) digging in.

Are we watching a Test match or a very bad Twenty20 batting innings? We’re in just the 16th over. 54-9.

Good stats, Broad currently 7-11…

We must remember of course that England are yet to bat, so anything can happen on this pitch…

Australia’s total of 50 is not even in the worst four Ashes scores, there better?

(12:17) 50 UP! We promise we’re not being patronising…

(12:15) WICKET! Broad takes 7 (for just 11 runs) to get Johnson edged out. 47-9.

Sorry Jimmy, we still remember you…

(12:12) WICKET! Well Mitchell Starc now goes too, yes you guessed it it caught in the slips. 46-8.

(12:10) Johnson makes it to double figures too! Well we have to give them something to avoid being seen as biased. 46-7.

As expected after such a smashing from England, their odds for victory have dramatically dropped to an odds-on price of 3/10 in Coral’s in-play betting. Australia now out at 3/1.

Just an hour gone of the day, and the tourists are at a terrible 38-7 at drinks.

Nice to see that past and former athletes from all sports unite join together in harmony at the expense of Australia being thrashed.

Top banter by the Nottinghamshire police…

(11:54) WICKET! The first dismissal other than a catch, as Finn clean bowls Peter Nevill for just 2. Clarke still the only one to have got into double figures. 33-7.

Wonderful stat…

Blink at your peril, before you know it you’d have missed a wicket or five.

Aussies can already start to look forward to the darts Down Under starting next week…

Australia have thankfully avoided the lowest ever Test score of 26, which New Zealand recorded against England in 1955. The worst Ashes total, meanwhile, is 36, which the Baggy Greens managed way back in 1902.

(11:40) WICKET! Aaaaand he’s gone! Clarke is caught by counterpart Cook as Broad gets a five-wicket haul, his 14th in Tests. 29-6.

Clarke moves into double figures, beating Rogers (0), Warner (0), Smith (6), Marsh (0) and Voges’ (1) scores put together.

Here is that catch by Stokes!

With four of the five wickets being caught in the slips, the other by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, take terrific odds of 27/10 for the next dismissal to be a fielder catch too.

(11:29) WICKET! What a catch by Ben Stokes! Broad (4-6) takes his fourth wicket as Australia are now 21-5. Adam Voges the man to go.

Replay of the wickets so far…

Last Test lasted under three days, how long could this one go on for?

Jimmy Anderson who? It’s fair to say Cook made the right decision to bowl first…

(11:21) WICKET! Another edge to the slips, this time Shaun Marsh goes off Broad, who gets his third wicket! The third duck of the innings. 15-4.

Despite three wickets in the first two overs, they have been expensive going for 15 runs. But England really won’t mind.

Skipper Michael Clarke in to face the new ball already. He is the last person the Aussies need to save the day, after his terrible form.

(11:13) WICKET! In only his second ball, Wood strikes to get Warner out, edged again. Australia’s first three batsmen are skittled out with ease. 10-3.

(11:12) Wood now bowling to David Warner.

(11:09) KEY WICKET!!! Amazing scenes at Trent Bridge as Broad gets his second dismissal, still in the first over. This time Steve Smith is the man to go, also caught in the slips.

(11:06) WICKET! Broad (his 300th Test wicket) strikes already to get Rogers out for 0, his first ever duck in Test cricket in 46 innings! Captain Cook with the catch at first slip. Fabulous start. 4-1.

(11:05) PLAY BEGINS! Broad opens the bowling to Chris Rogers.

Before the start of play, there is a minute applause for former South Africa international and Nottinghamshire captain Clive Rice…

Since the coin toss, England’s odds for victory with Coral have slightly shortened to 7/4 in the in-play betting, while Australia’s have gone out to 21/10. With rain expected this match, a draw is 17/5.

(10:44) Light drizzle on the pitch, forcing the covers on, hopefully not for long…

Who will take the new ball for England out of Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Man of the Match at Edgbaston, and Wood?

Play hasn’t even started yet, but already a top stat… England, of course, famously won the below match at Edgbaston in 2005 by 2 runs.

(10:30) In terms of team changes, Mark Wood comes back into the England side after the injury to James Anderson, while one Marsh replaces the other for the Aussies, as Shaun takes Mitchell’s place. Just the two Mitchells (Johnson and Starc) left in Australia’s XI now.

(10:30) England win toss! Alastair Cook finally wins a coin toss and decides to bowl.

Just before play starts today, Australia are the even-money match favourites with Coral, while England are temptingly priced at 2/1. If you fancy a draw, take odds of 10/3.

(10:00) Good morning cricket fans! Catch the Ashes action with Coral for all the main events that happen during this fourth Test between England and Australia at Trent Bridge. On top of that, we will be sharing topical Tweets from current and former pros, as well as celebs, from around the globe!
