Windsor preview: Peace can bag first Prize

Trainer Hugo Palmer has his team in terrific shape and Peace Prize can provide the Newmarket handler with another success in the 1m 3f handicap on this evening’s card at Windsor (20.20).

The lightly-raced filly has won two of her last four starts and looked one to keep onside in the last of those when coming with a late run to beat Polarisation by one length in a 1m 2f contest at Newmarket off a mark of 71.

Peace Prize scored with a bit more in hand than the winning margin suggests, and the runner-up has won twice to give the form a strong look in the context of this contest.

Although Peace Prize was unable to follow-up that success off 7lb higher when third at Sandown 16 days ago, that race was run at a muddling pace and the daughter of Alfred Noble was far from disgraced.

To my eyes the three-year-old should be more than capable of winning races off her current mark of 78, and judged on the manner of Peace Prize’s victory at Newmarket the step up in trip should suit.

The Palmer team could also not be in better shape having saddled six winners from their last eight runners, and everything looks in place for huge run.

In the 6f handicap (19.50), Hoofalong can cash-in on a career-low mark to get back to winning ways.

The Mick Easterby trained gelding was in good form in 2013 when landing back to back handicaps at Doncaster and over course and distance.

Hoofalong won the latter off a mark of 77 and went on to finish a fine second of 13 in a class 2 contest over 5f at York off 84.

The five-year-old is now able to race off just 70 after drawing a blank last year and hinted that his time was near three starts back at York when a 3 1/4 length fifth of 18 to Harwoods Volante.

Hoofalong was then backed off the boards at Wetherby only to unseat Nathan Evans shortly after the stalls opened, and got outpaced over 5f at Doncaster last time out before staying on to finish a never nearer 3 3/4 length fifth.

Judged on the latter the step back up in trip will suit, and with Harry Bentley taking over in the saddle Hoofalong looks weighted to take all the beating.

18.50: Liberality
19.20: Thames Knight
