Trainer John Gosden has an excellent record in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy and Mr Singh can further enhance it with victory in this year’s renewal of the 1m 5f contest at Newmarket (14.10).

The Newmarket handler has won three of the last four runnings, and in Mr Singh has a lightly-raced and progressive colt who brings the strongest form into the race.

Mr Singh confirmed the promise of his third on debut at Kempton when cosily landing what is traditionally a strong maiden at Newbury on seasonal reappearance.

After being slowly away, the son of High Chaparral came with a sustained run on the outside a furlong from home before staying on strongly under a hands and heels ride from jockey Frankie Dettori to get up close home and beat Scottish by a neck.

It was a most taking performance, and although Mr Singh could finish only fifth of six next time up in a Listed contest at Goodwood he was unsuited by the track and showed what he is capable of last time out when a cracking second in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The three-year-old looked all over the winner when kicking clear rounding the home turn, only to get collared late on and beaten 1 1/4 lengths by the strong finishing Balios.

That run earned Mr Singh and official rating of 108, and gives him 7lb and upwards in hand over his rival’s in this lower grade contest.

If running to the same level, that suggests Mr Singh is going to be very hard to beat.

Monotype looked one to keep onside when scoring last time out and may well prove the main danger.

Luca Cumani

The Luca Cumani trained colt built on a promising debut run when third at Nottingham to gamely beat She Is No Lady by 1/2 a length in a 17-runner 1m 4f maiden at Doncaster.

Monotype showed a tremendous attitude to score with a bit more to spare than the winning margin suggest, and the pair pulled five lengths clear of the third.

The runner-up has since come out and bolted up by 13 lengths, and although this represents a bug step up in class Cumani is not the type to go tilting at windmills.

Monotype would have now problem winning decent handicaps off his current rating of 87, so the fact that connections have decided to bypass that option and pitch the son of Makfi straight into Group company shows he is clearly held in very high regard.
