Manchester United target Sergio Ramos will be staying at La Liga giants Real Madrid, according to Los Blancos boss Rafa Benitez, who is 7/4 with Coral to mastermind a La Liga title win this term.

Following the sale of Iker Casillas to Porto and long-standing interest in Red Devils goalkeeper David de Gea held by the Bernabeu hierarchy as a replacement, Man Utd were hopeful of getting Spain centurion and defender Ramos in part-exchange.

“I see Sergio as an integral part of our team,” stated former Liverpool coach Benitez. “He’s a winner and that’s what we need. The president has already commented that he is staying with the club. I have spoken to Ramos at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future. For me, he is an enormous professional. He does everything that the team and I ask of him.”

Louis van Gaal is still looking to strengthen his squad at Old Trafford, despite four summer signings already. United made major headlines with their capture of Bayern Munich midfielder and Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, with Southampton and France defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin also joining the Red Devils on the same day.

PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay, plus Torino and Italy full back Matteo Darmian were the other deals already done by Man Utd, but more new names are expecting to come in.

“No, we are not finished yet, I think,” Van Gaal told MUTV. “We need a balance in the selection and I think we still need to improve at least two positions and we shall do that when it is possible.”

With Benitez ruling a Ramos exit out, Valencia centre back Nicolas Otamendi is now likely to be United’s top defensive target. The Argentina international was notably absent from the new Los Che kit launch, though he may have been given leave after reaching the Copa America final with his country.

Bolstering the Red Devils striking options would also appear to be the other position Van Gaal alluded to after Robin van Persie was sold to Fenerbahce, and a number of high-profile players have been linked. These include Real frontman Karim Benzema and Bayern pair Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, currently sidelined by a collarbone injury, are the only senior strikers at 6/1 Premier League title chances Manchester United.
