Liverpool (a 9/4 shout with Coral for a top four finish) and Manchester United (6/1 to win the Premier League) are the latest clubs to be linked with a move for Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze, who is already tipped to be a summer target for Arsenal and Italian giants Juventus.

The Old Lady are rumoured to be attempting to include Borussia Dortmund academy graduate Gotze in midfield dynamo Arturo Vidal’s mooted transfer to Munich.

It is believed that Gotze, whose contract with the Bundesliga champions runs out in 2017, could be snaffled for around £49.6m, which seems a relative snip in the current market for a 23-year-old who already has an extensive haul of major trophies.

A World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, where he proved to be the goal hero, Gotze has yet to progress to the level expected at the Allianz Arena, and is reportedly unhappy at having been frequently used to fill numerous holes in the squad.

From being the main string-puller and prized youth product at Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp, Gotze has yet to truly carve out a role for himself with Bayern, and is believed to be seeking pastures new after just two terms with the Bavarians.

Watch Gotze’s best goals:

Gotze himself recently told media: “I think that playing abroad might be a good experience for me: new languages, new cultures. I might like it. But, as I said, I’m just at the early stage of my career. Let’s see what the future brings.”

Munich coach Guardiola, however, swiftly moved to deny any intentions to offload the adaptable attacker, stating: “Mario’s got a contract here, he’s my player and he’s a great player too. In my mind, he is going to be a Bayern Munich player… but I know that it’s not only the coach who decides here. It depends on the club.”

Liverpool, also reported to be interested in Gotze’s compatriot and former clubmate Marco Reus, have yet to spend the £49m Raheem Sterling fee, but appear to be on the verge of forking out significant funds to capture Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Should the Reds seek compete with Juve for Die Mannschaft midfielder Gotze, they would have to convince the guileful German to forgo a campaign without Champions League football, which could prove a hard sell.

Could Man Utd be a more likely Premier League destination for apparently wantaway Gotze? Should wingman Angel Di Maria, also said to be unsettled, depart the Red Devils, there could well be space at Old Trafford for another top talent.

Former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal has already snatched Bastian Schweinsteiger from the Munich men, and is also rumoured to be tracking marksmen Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski, yet Gotze may now be more attainable.
