Five special bets to take for the World Matchplay darts
With the prestigious World Matchplay darts tournament around the corner, Coral writers provide punters with five special bets to take to make your viewing of the event all the more enjoyable.
Dave Chisnall eliminated in quarter-finals – 15/8
Seventh seed Chizzy has had a brilliant last of couple years, having reached the Grand Slam of Darts final and Premier League play-offs and it seems the 24-year-old will one day win a major trophy.
However, he has been knocked out of the quarters at the World Matchplay for the last two years running, and happens to be on course to meet 15-time champion Phil Taylor at the stage this time around. Therefore, back him to exit in the last eight once more.
Winning half (bottom) – 10/11
Along with The Power, who is currently on a 35-match winning streak at this tournament having won the last seven World Matchplay titles, the likes of Premier League and world champion Gary Anderson are in the bottom half of the draw.
On top of that, 2007 winner James Wade, former runner-ups Raymond van Barneveld and Terry Jenkins, as well as Chisnall, are also in contention for this bet.
Exactly one nine-dart finish – 6/5
In the last five World Matchplay events, there have been exactly five nine-darters, with perfect legs being thrown by the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Barney and most recently Taylor in that time. Therefore, it makes sense that there will be exactly one thrown in the 2015 version of this event too.
No 170 checkouts – 11/2
There has been no maximum checkout in four of the last seven tournaments at the Winter Gardens, including last year when Stephen Bunting managed a best effort of 167. Take these great odds for no 170 this year too.
Peter Wright and Phil Taylor meet in final – 25/1
With all-time great Taylor, who is in great form having recently won the World Cup of Darts with England and then the Japan Darts Masters, heavily backed to defend his crown for a seventh time, place a stake on him to reach the final once again.
In the top half of the draw, meanwhile, Mighty Mike is the favourite, but has looked shaky this year having only picked up one major trophy – the Coral UK Open. Therefore, back a rampant Wright, who like Taylor has made it to the World Cup and Japan Masters finals in 2015, to meet Taylor for the title.
