Liverpool have expressed interest in Real Madrid-owned Russian winger Denis Cheryshev who spent last season on loan at Villarreal and are said to be preparing a £22m offer. The 24-year-old could well be a replacement for Raheem Sterling with Manchester City keen on his signature, and would fit in at Anfield.

Meanwhile, having agreed a deal to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich, Manchester United will step up their efforts to bring in Valencia’s Argentinian centre back Nicolas Otamendi, while the club’s pursuit of the German midfielder doesn’t mean they will end their interest in Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

They have also returned to Real Madrid to tell them that they expect Sergio Ramos plus goalkeeper Keylor Navas if David De Gea joins Los Blancos. To solve their quest for a striker, they could turn to Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, who would be a cheaper alternative than Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain or Bayern’s Thomas Muller.

After unveiling plans for a new stadium in the week, Spurs could be set to make another signal of intent, this time in the transfer market, with reports indicating that they are weighing up a £20m bid for Everton’s James McCarthy, though chairman Daniel Levy has told manager Mauricio Pochettino that he must sell at least six squad players before any major signings can be made.

Newcastle could be about to make their second signing in a week, with Mike Ashley set to write a £13m cheque for 20-year-old Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Magpies only recently signed Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven.

Premier League new boys Bournemouth have showed their ambition having declared their interest in QPR’s Charlie Austin, who has a number of clubs circling, while the South Coast club are preparing a £7.5m offer for Nottingham Forest’s 25-year-old winger Michail Antonio.

Champions Chelsea may make a move for Chilean midfielder Charles Aranguiz who plays for Internacional and has been scouted by Arsenal in the past.
