SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Following news that Peter Schmeichel has applied for the vacant Leicester City manager’s position, Coral make him a 16/1 shot to be their next boss.

We also consider 10 other famous footballing families who have worked together with current Foxes goalkeeper, Kasper, Peter’s son.

Harry & Jamie Redknapp: Bournemouth/Southampton
One of the most well-known footballing families, the father and son duo were both at Bournemouth and Southampton together, with Jamie going on to win the FA Cup at Liverpool in between. Whether he follows in the footsteps of father Harry and becomes a manager remains to be seen, though he has shown a particular proclivity for punditry. Jamie’s cousin is also ex-Chelsea, Manchester City and England midfielder, Frank Lampard, whose father also played professional football.

Steve & Alex Bruce: Birmingham City and Hull City

Probably a more humble partnership, the duo have a good relationship at the Tigers and the last thing the former can be accused of is favouritism, not being afraid to drop his son for bad performances, or publicly criticise him. Bruce senior was schooled by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, no less, so learned vital man-management skills.

Brian & Nigel Clough: Nottingham Forest
This famous father and son team resided at Nottingham Forest, with Brian bringing son Nigel through as an apprentice, where he excelled as a striker. Whether he follows in the footsteps as his father and becomes Forest manager in the future remains to be seen, though to match ‘Old Big Head’ Clough junior would have to win and then retain the Champions League.

Alex & Darren Ferguson: Manchester United
Between 1990 and 1994, what would go onto become the most successful managers of the modern era gave his son a chance to become part of a footballing dynasty.

Although Ferguson junior played enough matches to qualify for a Premier League winners’ medal in the 1992-93 season, when he covered for the injured Bryan Robson, it became clear that he didn’t have the quality of his peers. Sir Alex transferred his son to Wolves at the end of the following season; one of his earliest examples of demonstrating ruthlessness, a trait which went on to serve him well.

Danny & Daley Blind: Netherlands
The new boss of his country’s national team takes the job, with his son already an established international. Prior to taking the job, Danny reportedly turned down an offer from Louis van Gaal to assist him at Manchester United, which would have also seen him coaching his son at club level.

Paul & Tom Ince: Blackpool
Another link to Manchester United, however, Paul managed his son while at Blackpool which actually proved a success. In the 2012/13 season, Tom scored 18 goals and made 14 assists from the left wing, form he has struggled to emulate while at Hull, but has rediscovered at Derby County.

Henrik & Jordan Larsson: Helsingborg
Player-coach Henrik has brought son Jordan through at Helsingborg and to great effect. The 17-year-old recently scored a wonder-strike, as can be seen below. Based on the footage, he is definitely every bit as good as his father, maybe even better.

Kenny & Paul Dalglish: Newcastle United
Although this family name has stronger ties to Liverpool, it was actually at the Magpies where the father and son team linked up with Kenny signing Paul in 1997 where he made 14 appearances, bagging a brace in he League Cup against Tranmere Rovers.

Cesare & Paolo Maldini: AC Milan and Italy
Both played for AC Milan, both were successful defenders and both won countless Serie A trophies between them. They have also both won the continent’s elite club competition; the European Cup which later became the Champions League. Cesare coached Paolo for both club and country, naming him Azzurri captain, though their San Siro partnership was only briefly in 2001.

Johan & Jordi Cruyff: Barcelona
Arguably one of the best footballer’s of all time, Cruyff senior managed his son while at Barcelona in the 1990s, though Jordi failed to live up to the quality of his father, despite going on to play for Man Utd under Sir Alex Ferguson.
