Bath preview: Snap Shots can gun down rivals

Snap Shots has some strong form to his name and can take advantage of a drop in class to land the 5f handicap on today’s six-race card at Bath (15.10).

The Tom Dascombe’s trained gelding won twice as a juvenile, including over course and distance, and was also s far from disgraced when 11th of 23 to the classy Limato in the valuable Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar.

Snap Shots has also run well in four starts this campaign, including when runner-up to Wanting in a class 3 handicap at Haydock on his penultimate start off a mark of 93.

The winner has since gone on to finish a close up fifth in a Listed race and the third home Handsome Dude, who finished 2 3/4 behind Snap Shots, scored in good style at Wetherby yesterday to give the form a solid look.

Snap Shots backed that up with a solid fourth in a class 2 handicap at Newmarket off the same mark, and has since been dropped 1lb to a rating of 92.

That is a career-low and gives the son of Kodiac major claims at the weights, especially now dropped down into class 3 company in what looks a weak contest lacking any real strength in depth.

In the 6f handicap (15.45), Breccbennach looks weighted to take make a winning return to action.

The gelding, who is trained by Seamus Durack, was in good form last spring when scoring twice with the last of those successes came off a mark of 75 at Windsor where he ran on strongly to score by 1 1/2 lengths in a class 4 contest.

The five-year-old got put up 6lb for that victory, and failed to trouble the judge in five subsequent outings.

However, Breccbennach did run well on one occasion when fourth at Windsor off 80 and is now able to race off his last winning mark of 75.

It makes Breccbennach look well-treated now dropped down into class 5 company after competing at class 4 level all last season.

Another plus is that the son of Oasis Dream has run well fresh in the past, so although Breccbennach has been on the sidelines for 259 days he is unlikely to be found wating through lack of fitness.
