World champions Germany gunning for momentous triumph over USA

World champions Germany will be hoping to continue their international dominance at next summer’s Euro 2016 in France, and have a potentially simple qualifying clash with Group D strugglers Gibraltar coming up, but as preparation they will first face the USA in a friendly encounter.

Joachim Low’s supreme German outfit currently sit in second place and level with Scotland in their group, but are just a single point adrift of table toppers Poland, while their next qualifier opponents Gibraltar falter haplessly rock bottom without gaining a single positive result so far.

Ahead of their trip to tackle the group’s whipping boys, Germany will take on a sterner challenge in the form of the Americans, who are managed by a familiar face of former World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann, and his side are 13/2 with Coral to cause an upset.

The reigning world champions are 2/1 to secure victory and both nations to score, having won back-to-back qualifiers, including a respectable 4-0 triumph over next Euro counterparts Gibraltar, and have incredibly, only lost two Euro qualifiers since October 2007.

Although, the USA will be hopeful of toppling their tough opposition in this friendly fixture, after making an impressive comeback in their previous clash against the Netherlands to emerge victorious with a 4-3 win, despite trailing until late on.

Klinsmann’s men came from 3-1 down with 20 minutes to go to beat the Dutch thanks to stoppage time goals from Daniel Williams and Bobby Wood, and the German coach is confident of upsetting the odds again against his home nation.

“I hope that what we are capable of is becoming consistent,” stated Klinsmann. “We surprised quite a lot of people with that result in Holland, but now it’s actually on us to take the same energy, the same approach, the same discipline and tempo against the world champions.

“You’ve got to do it again. We’re hoping that over time it becomes a lifestyle that we always expect the best from ourselves in training and in the game, and there’s nothing bigger than a game against the world champions.”

Germany will be without Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, who is struggling with a hip injury, while Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng will not join up with the squad until the day of this friendly encounter. Mario Gotze famously struck the decisive World Cup effort in Brazil and is 7/2 to score last again this time out.

For the USA, Wood will look to follow up his strike against the Oranje, and he is 9/1 to open proceedings. The last time these two nations met was at the World Cup last summer, when Thomas Muller netted in a 1-0 victory, it was a result which ultimately saw both countries progress from their group on Samba soil.
