Where could Morgan Schneiderlin set up camp next season?

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin’s transfer saga rumbled on for an age last summer, before the 25-year-old was finally convinced to stay put on the south coast.

Now, following another standout season with Saints, the St Mary’s star looks set to be the subject of another scramble for his services, though Schneiderlin’s recent statements about Champions League football look to have ruled out a reunion with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham (now outsiders at 10/1 to be his next club).

“Yes, I think my decision is made. I learned a lot last season. The goal is to stay in England. It is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun. If I leave Southampton, it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League,” the Les Bleus international told press.

With that mind, Coral writers have picked out five clubs who would be perfect fits for the Frenchman…

Arsenal: 4/7
The Gunners are odds-on favourites, as Arsene Wenger has long been attributed with an interest in capturing his compatriot to man Arsenal’s engine room.

Having finished the season strongly, with a third place Premier League finish and FA Cup crown, the London club look an attractive prospect and tempting chance to land further silverware next season. Could Schneiderlin be the final piece in the puzzle?

PSG: 5/1
Should Saints drag their heels over selling to a domestic rival, despite Schneiderlin’s intention to stay in England, PSG could tempt the Frenchman to return to his homeland, with the promise of a strong team to compete on the continent.

With Yohan Cabaye looking likely to depart the Parc des Princes, the Parisians will be keen to procure another homegrown hero, and the prospect of pairing up with Les Bleus teammate Blaise Matuidi could prove too good to resist.

Manchester United: 4/1
The Red Devils are the latest to be linked with Schneiderlin, and it would be a switch that makes perfect sense.
Man Utd need a player who can fulfill defensive duties while also playmaking from deep, so Schneiderlin’s mix of energy and impressive anticipation would make him an ideal foil or partner for ageing Michael Carrick.

Manchester City: 5/1
Neither Fernando or Fernandinho have convinced entirely in the holding role behind Yaya Toure, though adding Schneiderlin to the roster would seem like overkill, despite grafter James Milner looking set to exit the Etihad.

However, City may not want to miss the opportunity if Schneiderlin is available, as their title rivals would be strengthened significantly by snapping up the midfield shield, whose class and composure on the ball could also be a boost on the continent.

Chelsea: 8/1
One of Schneiderlin’s best performances of the season came against champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and the six-capped France international certainly fits the mold of an ideal Jose Mourinho midfielder.

Nemanja Matic may dominate for the Blues, but when the Serbian enforcer is missing, the west Londoners suffer, and could improve their picks for the middle of the park with Schneiderlin a much more effective option than the likes of Ramires and John Obi Mikel. With both midfield marshals in the ranks, Stamford Bridge could truly be a fortress.
