UEFA Under-21 Championship Group B: Can Young Lions claw back?

Published:

England have work to do if they are to qualify for the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championship, after losing their Group B opener to Portugal in the Czech Republic.

Next, they face Sweden, who beat Italy, so Coral preview two second round of fixtures of the pool.

Sweden v England
The young Swedes shocked Italy in their opening game of the tournament, as a late penalty from Bordeaux forward Isaac Kiese Thelin completed a 2-1 fightback.

Despite that victory, though, England are still odds-on favourites with Coral to triumph here, with Sweden temptingly priced at 10/3.

Thelin and fellow scorer against the Italians John Guidetti, currently owned by Manchester City, can both be backed to net anytime at 11/4, with the former 8/1 to strike last once more.

For Gareth Southgate’s Young Lions, they will be hoping that star striker Harry Kane can be on target, having failed to do so in the 1-0 loss to Portugal.

The in-demand Spurs frontman is odds-on at 10/11 in the anytime market, while he is a more enticing 4/1 to bag a brace or better.

Kane is also the subject of a Coral match special, with an enhanced price of 5/2 for him to score and England Under-21s win (maximum stake of £20).

New Liverpool signing Danny Ings, meanwhile, will be another forward threat, and he is 4/1 to strike first. While Derby County schemer Will Hughes is also a tempting 4/1 shout just to score anytime.

Italy v Portugal
With Portugal taking all three points against England, they go into this fixture with Italy as the 5/4 favourites for victory again, to all-but qualify for the semis.

Full international Joao Mario, of Sporting Lisbon, got the winner in the group opener, and is a great shout at 14/5 to score anytime again here.

Monaco’s Bernardo Silva and Porto’s Ricardo Pereira also represent attacking threats for the Portuguese, and are respective 11/5 and 19/10 shouts in the same market.

For the Italians (11/5 to win), Juventus co-owned rising star Domenico Berardi, who has been prolific for Sassuolo the last three seasons, netted against Sweden. He opened the scoring, so is 13/2 to do so again, and 23/10 just to be on target anytime.
