Seven superb shouts to clinch Copa America top scorer crown
It’s not long now until this summer’s 2015 Copa America kicks-off in Chile, so Coral have priced up a host of generous odds to get customers in the Samba spirit.
Here, we pick out seven scintillating South American superstars who could be crowned the competition’s top scorer. Read on to see who we fancy to bag the Golden Boot…
Sergio Aguero (Argentina)
Watch Aguero in action:
Irrepressible Lionel Messi is, of course, an obvious 3/1 favourite to nab the coveted top scoring crown, but we think Manchester City’s marksman Aguero is a much better value, and more intriguing, chance at 8/1 to grab the most goals.
The Citizens sharpshooter hit 26 in 33 Premier League appearances this campaign and, just like Messi, can win a game on his own merits. Nine in his previous seven outings support or shout, as Aguero has just finished the season on a high, and will be hungry for his purple patch to continue.
Carlos Bacca (Colombia)
Sevilla sniper Bacca, fresh from firing the Bathtubs to Europa League glory, will be eager to add further silverware to his trophy cabinet, and certainly has his scoring boots on with 28 across all competitions for the term.
The Colombian dangerman is rumoured to be seeking a move, and top clubs would surely find a Copa America golden boot tough to ignore. All Bacca needs is a sniff of goal, so back him at a sensational price of 16/1 to be most lethal.
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)
Prolific PSG predator Cavani (16/1) will be the main man up top in suspended Luis Suarez’s absence, increasing his chances of capturing the top scorer crown. An impressive 31 strikes for his club across all competitions mean he is primed to lead La Celeste, whose strong spine includes Atletico Madrid defensive pair Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez, to glory.
Roberto Firmino (Brazil)
Take a peak at Firmino’s best bits:
Not merely a supporting act, Samba Boys superstar-in-waiting Firmino could potentially outclass his peers in Chile, and currently has a super strike-rate of two in four for Brazil.
With 23 Bundesliga goals over the past two terms, the Hoffenheim hitman’s intelligence and excellent anticipation could see him gobble up chances for Brazil, with less pressure on the versatile attacker than on our next pick. Firmino has been touted as the perfect foil for our next candidate to boot…
Neymar (Brazil)
Watch Neymar’s sensational skills:
Man of the moment Neymar has stepped up at club level this campaign, notching 38 for the season. These numbers are undoubtedly impressive, but crowds may have seen nothing yet, as the tricky Samba talisman always saves his best for Brazil.
Everything revolves around the esteemed forward, who is two goals shy from being the Champions League leading marksman, and 45 strikes in 62 caps shows why, so take a 5/1 punt on Neymar to net most in Chile.
James Rodriguez (Colombia)
Coffee Growers goal hero Rodriguez’s World Cup Golden Boot capture earned the 23-year-old a move to Real Madrid, can he be top scorer again?
Colombia have the chance to go far, with the likes of Juan Cuadrado, Bacca, Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez in the ranks, though Rodriguez will be key if given the freedom to roam. The inspirational attacker hit six in five in Brazil, so back him at 25/1 to star on Chile’s stage.
Alexis Sanchez
Adaptable Arsenal artist Sanchez, creator of one of the FA Cup’s most sublime strikes, could hardly have asked for more successful debut season in Gunners colours, hitting 25 in all competitions.
Chile will be chomping at the bit to claim a first Copa America on home soil, and everything will go through Sanchez, who is a terrific 12/1 to now turn on the style for his nation.
Coral’s top tip: Sergio Aguero @ 8/1 to be Copa America top scorer looks like a real steal to us, so don’t miss out!
