Odds say Britain could have record-breaking heatwave
Published:Leading bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on this summer being the hottest in British history, following a flurry of bets over the weekend. It’s now 10-1 from 12-1 that the record temperature of 38.5C is broken.
With a heatwave expected to hit the nation this week, Coral has opened betting on the highest temperature, making it 2-1 that the mercury rises to 32C, while it’s 5-2 that it reaches highs of 36C. Meanwhile the firm go 2-1 that this Wimbledon is the hottest in the tournaments history, while it’s 6-1 that no rain falls during the events at SW19.
“This week could see Britain break the record high temperature of 38.5C set in August 2003, with the odds suggesting temperatures are very likely to hit 36C or above,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
